Abstract

An apparatus and method of performing automated administrative operations on a mobile device. One example method may include determining via a hosted server that an action needs to be performed by a mobile device under management. The method may further include generating a message via the hosted server, the message includes the action, and transmitting the message to the mobile device under management, and receiving a result message from the mobile device under management responsive to the transmitted message, the result indicating that the action has been satisfied.

Claims (34)

1. A method comprising:

executing a script in a mobile agent router device, wherein the script is configured to create at least one data message comprising at least one update to be performed on a mobile device and header information identifying the mobile device;

responsive to executing the script, initiating update commands to be performed on the mobile device periodically at specified times included in the script; and

transmitting the at least one data message comprising the update commands to the mobile device based on information included in the executed script, wherein the update commands are executed on the mobile device without user interaction.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising monitoring operations performed by the mobile device by a remote administrative device that determines whether the at least one update needs to be performed on the mobile device.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising generating a script responsive to an application being identified as needing to be executed on a mobile device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the update commands are transmitted to the mobile device from the mobile agent router device.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the update commands comprise at least one of a specific service installation and an upgrade installation to be installed on the mobile device.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving at least one recipient selection from the mobile device; and

comparing the at least one recipient selection to a device table to determine whether the mobile device is registered to receive the upgrade installation.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the device table includes registration information of all registered devices configured to receive the at least one update.

8. An apparatus comprising:

a processor configured to

execute a script in a mobile agent router device, wherein the script is configured to create at least one data message comprising at least one update to be performed on a mobile device and header information identifying the mobile device;

responsive to execution of the script, initiate update commands to be performed on the mobile device periodically at specified times included in the script; and

a transmitter configured to transmit the at least one data message comprising the update commands to the mobile device based on information included in the executed script, wherein the update commands are executed on the mobile device without user interaction.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to monitor operations performed by the mobile device and wherein the processor is further configured to determine whether the at least one update needs to be performed on the mobile device.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the processor is further configured to generate a script responsive to an application being identified as needing to be executed on a mobile device.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the update commands comprise at least one of a specific service installation and an upgrade installation to be installed on the mobile device.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , further comprising a receiver configured to receive at least one recipient selection from the mobile device, and wherein the processor is configured to compare the at least one recipient selection to a device table to determine whether the mobile device is registered to receive the upgrade installation.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the device table includes registration information of all registered devices configured to receive the at least one update.

14. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium configured to store instructions that when executed cause at least one processor to perform:

executing a script in a mobile agent router device, wherein the script is configured to create at least one data message comprising at least one update to be performed on a mobile device and header information identifying the mobile device;

responsive to executing the script, initiating update commands to be performed on the mobile device periodically at specified times included in the script; and

transmitting the at least one data message comprising the update commands to the mobile device based on information included in the executed script, wherein the update commands are executed on the mobile device without user interaction.

15. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to perform monitoring operations performed by the mobile device by a remote administrative device that determines whether the at least one update needs to be performed on the mobile device.

16. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to perform generating a script responsive to an application being identified as needing to be executed on a mobile device.

17. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the update commands are transmitted to the mobile device from the mobile agent router device.

18. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the update commands comprise at least one of a specific service installation and an upgrade installation to be installed on the mobile device.

19. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 14 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to perform:

receiving at least one recipient selection from the mobile device; and

comparing the at least one recipient selection to a device table to determine whether the mobile device is registered to receive the upgrade installation.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein the device table includes registration information of all registered devices configured to receive the at least one update.
