Parametrically formulated noise and audio systems, devices, and methods thereof
View Patent ↗In one embodiment, an audio system can generate a parametrically formulated noise signal which can be mixed with an audio signal or acoustic signal. According to an embodiment, a parametrically formulated noise signal can be configured to have a power spectrum amplitude that is a function of frequency. According to an embodiment, a parametrically formulated noise signal can have a power spectrum amplitude across a range of frequencies that is a function of an individual's hearing thresholds across the range of frequencies.
1. An audio system for improving hearing ability in an individual, comprising:
a parametrically formulated noise generator, wherein the parametrically formulated noise generator is configured to generate a parametric noise signal substantially within a first range of frequencies, and wherein the parametric noise signal is generated by time ordering a plurality of periodic waves having frequencies within the first range of frequencies, wherein a plurality of parameters representing the ratios of duration of each of the plurality of periodic waves over time are selected such that an average value of a power spectrum of the noise signal across the first range of frequencies is related to the threshold of hearing for the individual across the first range of frequencies.
2. The audio system of claim 1 , wherein the first range of frequencies is selected to correspond to a range of frequencies where the individual has some hearing loss.
3. The audio system of claim 1 , wherein the audio system comprises a hearing aid.
