Mesenchymal stem cells and uses therefor
Compositions and methods of promoting wound healing in a human by administering to the human mesenchymal stem cells in an effective amount.
1. A method of treating an inflamed wound in a human in need thereof comprising administering isolated mesenchymal stem cells to the human in an amount effective to treat the inflamed wound, wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are genetically unmanipulated.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wound is internal or external.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wound is a dermal ulcer.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the dermal ulcer is caused by diabetes or sickle cell-anemia.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are administered directly into the wound.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are administered as a cell suspension in a pharmaceutically acceptable liquid medium or on a dressing or reservoir.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are allogeneic.
8. The method of claim 2 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are allogeneic.
9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are allogeneic.
10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are autologous.
11. The method of claim 2 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are autologous.
12. The method of claim 6 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are autologous.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from a mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue, isolated, and expanded in culture.
14. The method of claim 2 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from a mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue, isolated, and expanded in culture.
15. The method of claim 6 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from a mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue, isolated, and expanded in culture.
16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are harvested from a mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue, isolated, and expanded in culture.
17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue is blood, skin, cord blood, muscle, fat, perichondrium, bone marrow or periosteum.
18. The method of claim 14 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue is blood, skin, cord blood, muscle, fat, perichondrium, bone marrow or periosteum.
19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue is blood, skin, cord blood, muscle, fat, perichondrium, bone marrow or periosteum.
20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cell-containing tissue is blood, skin, cord blood, muscle, fat, perichondrium, bone marrow or periosteum.
21. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells are administered in combination with an anti-inflammatory drug.
22. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells promote angiogenesis.
23. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mesenchymal stem cells promote release of IL-10.
