Abstract

A network system for accessing situation related information is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system includes a network connection for receiving an indication of an occurrence of a situation; a situational network formed based on the occurrence of the situation, the situational network including a plurality of participant devices determined to be geographically proximate to the situation, each of the participant devices corresponding to a participant in the situational network; a second network connection for presenting a roll call query to each of the plurality of participant devices soliciting a reply related to a status of the participant; a plurality of network connections established for receiving a status response from the participant devices; and a database for aggregating the status responses from responsive participants into a roll call list.

Claims (58)

1. A system for querying candidate participant devices to solicit and aggregate status responses, related to events, from one or more candidate participant devices, the system comprising:

a central processing unit configured to generate a message board related to an indication of a first event;

a network controller, coupled to the central processing unit, configured to:

receive, from a first participant device, a first status response for a first query;

receive, from a second participant device, a request for information about a relevant event;

wherein the central processing unit is further configured to identify an attribute associated with the first participant device and, based on the identified attribute, identify the first event as the relevant event;

wherein the network controller is further configured to provide the second participant device access to the message board and receive, from the second participant device, a second status response for a second query; and

wherein the central processing unit is further configured to aggregate the second status response to a list of responses that includes the first status response.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central processing unit is further configured to identify the attribute associated with the first participant device by:

identifying a first node associated with the first participant device;

retrieving affiliations, from the first node, between the first node and other nodes;

identifying a second node from the other nodes affiliated with the first node, wherein the second node is associated with the second participant device; and

selecting, as the identified attribute, the affiliation between the first node and the second node.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central processing unit is further configured to identify the attribute associated with the first participant device by:

identifying a first location associated with the first participant device;

identifying a second location associated with the second participant device;

determining a geographic proximity between the first participant device and the second participant device based on a comparison of the first location and the second location; and

selecting, as the identified attribute, geographic proximity between the first participant device and the second participant device.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the central processing unit is further configured to:

update a first user profile associated with the first participant device based on the first status response; and

update a second user profile associated with the second participant device based on the second status response.

5. A method of accessing relevant event information, the method comprising:

receiving, from a first participant device, a first status response for a first query related to a first event;

identifying an attribute associated with the first participant device;

receiving a request from a second participant device for a relevant event;

identifying the first event as the relevant event based on the identified attribute associated with the first participant device;

providing, to the second participant device, a message board associated with the first event;

soliciting, from the second participant device, a second status response for a second query; and

aggregating the second status response to a list of responses that includes the first status response.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein identifying the attribute associated with the first participant device comprises:

identifying a first node associated with the first participant device;

retrieving affiliations, from the first node, between the first node and other nodes;

identifying a second node from the other nodes affiliated with the first node, wherein the second node is associated with the second participant device; and

selecting, as the identified attribute, the affiliation between the first node and the second node.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein identifying the attribute associated with the first participant device comprises:

identifying a first location associated with the first participant device;

identifying a second location associated with the second participant device;

determining a geographic proximity between the first participant device and the second participant device based on a comparison of the first location and the second location; and

selecting, as the identified attribute, geographic proximity between the first participant device and the second participant device.

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising providing a supplemental information item to the second participant device based on the geographic proximity between the first event and the second participant device.

9. The method of claim 5 , further comprising providing a first supplemental information item to the first participant device and a second supplemental information item to the second participant device.

10. The method of claim 5 , further comprising updating a first user profile associated with the first participant device to reflect the first status response.

11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising providing a first supplemental information item to the first participant device based on the updated first user profile.

12. The method of claim 5 , further comprising:

receiving information from a situation authority;

comparing the information against the attribute associated with the first participant device; and

determining, based on the comparison, to solicit the first status response for the first query related to the first event.

13. The method of claim 5 , further comprising providing the list of responses to a plurality of participant devices.

14. A method of accessing event related information, the method comprising:

transmitting, by a first participant device, a request to access information related to an event;

receiving, by the first participant device, access to a message board related to a first event, wherein the message board is associated with a first status response to a first query, wherein the first status response to the first query was provided by a second participant device; and

receiving, by the first participant device, a second query soliciting a second status response;

transmitting, by the first participant device, the second status response to the second query; and

receiving, by the first participant device, access to an aggregated list of status responses, wherein the aggregated list includes both the first status response and the second status response.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing, to the first participant device, access to a second event based on the second status response.

16. The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing, to the first participant device, a supplemental information item based on the second status response.

17. The method of claim 14 , further comprising providing notice to the second participant device of the second status response.

18. The method of claim 17 wherein the notice is provided with the message board.
