Abstract

Systems, methods, and apparatus are disclosed that process requested changes to operating parameters of an Internet of Things (IoT) device. In some embodiments, a client computing device originates a requested change to the IoT device. An IoT services system may process the requested change and determine whether an early indication of success is appropriate. If an early indication of success is appropriate, the IoT services system, prior to the requested change being applied to the IoT device, transmits to the client computing device a first message that provides an indication of success for the requested change.

receiving, with the IoT device via the network, a third network message that requests a second change to a second operating parameter of the IoT device;

initiating the second change to the second operating parameter as requested by the third network message;

determining, with the IoT device based on observability of the second change to the second operating parameter of the IoT device, not to transmit, prior to completing the second change to the second operating parameter, a fourth network message that specifies the second change has been accepted; and

after successfully completing the second change to the second operating parameter of the IoT device, transmitting, from the IoT device to the network, a fifth network message specifying that IoT has successfully applied the second change to the second operating parameter.

9. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising a plurality of instructions that in response to being executed, cause an Internet of Things (IoT) device to:

initiate a first change to a first operating parameter of the IoT device in response to receiving a first network message that requests the first change to the first operating parameter; and

transmit, prior to completing the first change to the first operating parameter, a second network message that specifies the IoT device has accepted the first change requested by the first network message.

10. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of instructions further cause the IoT device to successfully complete the first change to the first operating parameter after transmitting the second network message.

11. 12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of instructions further cause the IoT device to:

detect, after transmitting the second network message, that the IoT device failed to apply the first change to the first operating parameter; and

transmit, after detecting that the IoT device failed to apply the first change to the first operating parameter, a third network message that specifies the IoT device failed to apply the first change to the first operating parameter.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of instructions further cause the IoT device to:

initiate a second change to a second operating parameter of the IoT device in response to receiving a third network message that requests the second change to the second operating parameter;

determine, based on an importance of the second change requested by the third network message, not to transmit, prior to completing the second change to the second operating parameter, a fourth network message that specifies the second change has been accepted; and
