Abstract

The machine includes a feeding path for the logs to be cut and a cutting head arranged along the feeding path. The cutting head includes a coupling for a disc-shaped cutting blade and is designed to impart the disc-shaped cutting blade a rotary motion around the axis thereof and a cyclic movement to cut the logs into single rolls, and to allow the logs to move forward along the feeding path. The machine also includes at least a grinding unit, including at least one grinding wheel mounted onto a rotation shaft and co-acting with a side of the disc-shaped cutting blade to grind the cutting edge of the same disc-shaped cutting blade. A controlled approach system is also provided to move the grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade.

Claims (36)

1. A method for adjusting reciprocal position between a disc-shaped cutting blade of a cutting machine and at least one grinding wheel of a grinding unit movable with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade, wherein the grinding wheel is mounted on a rotation shaft and is arranged to co-act with a side of the disc-shaped cutting blade; the method comprising steps of:

supporting the at least one grinding wheel on a housing;

bringing the housing into an initial position with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade wherein the housing is in a near but non-contact position with the disc-shaped cutting blade;

controllably moving the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade, moving the at least one grinding wheel according to an approach direction with respect to the housing while maintaining the housing in said initial position, said controllably moving being by automatically adjusting the position of the at least one grinding wheel with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade by resiliently biasing the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade until the at least one grinding wheel contacts the disc-shaped cutting blade;

once a reciprocal contact position has been achieved between the at least one grinding wheel and the disc-shaped cutting blade, locking the reciprocal position between the at least one grinding wheel and the housing.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the approach direction is substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of the at least one grinding wheel.

3. A method of grinding a disc-shaped cutting blade of a cutting machine by at least one grinding wheel of a grinding unit which is movable with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade, wherein the at least one grinding wheel is mounted on a rotation shaft and is arranged for co-acting with a side of the disc-shaped cutting blade; the method comprising steps as follows:

adjusting the reciprocal position between the disc-shaped cutting blade and the at least one grinding wheel with a method including steps of:

supporting the at least one grinding wheel on a housing;

bringing the housing into an initial position with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade wherein the housing is in a near but non-contact position with the disc-shaped cutting blade;

controllably moving the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade, moving the at least one grinding wheel according to an approach direction with respect to the housing while maintaining the housing in said initial position, said controllably moving being by automatically adjusting the position of the at least one grinding wheel with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade by resiliently biasing the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade until the at least one grinding wheel contacts the disc-shaped cutting blade; and

once a reciprocal contact position has been achieved between the at least one grinding wheel and the disc-shaped cutting blade, locking the reciprocal position between the at least one grinding wheel and the housing;

cyclically grinding the disc-shaped cutting blade bringing said at least one grinding wheel in grinding contact with the cutting edge of the disc-shaped cutting blade by an advancement movement according to an advancement direction, the advancement movement compensating for wearing of the disc-shaped cutting blade caused by grinding.

4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the advancement movement is according to a direction different from the approach direction.

5. A method for adjusting reciprocal position between a disc-shaped cutting blade of a cutting machine and at least one grinding wheel of a grinding unit movable with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade, wherein the at least one grinding wheel is mounted on a rotation shaft and is arranged to co-act with a side of the disc-shaped cutting blade; the method comprising steps of:

supporting the at least one grinding wheel on a housing;

bringing the housing into an initial position with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade wherein the housing is in a near but non-contact position with the disc-shaped cutting blade;

controllably moving the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade, moving the at least one grinding wheel according to an approach direction with respect to the housing while maintaining the housing in said initial position, said controllably moving being by automatically adjusting the position of the at least one grinding wheel with respect to the disc-shaped cutting blade by detecting by a detection member adapted to sense position of the at least one grinding wheel;

once a reciprocal contact position has been achieved between the at least one grinding wheel and the disc-shaped cutting blade, locking the reciprocal position between the at least one grinding wheel and the housing.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said controllably moving of the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade comprises steps of:

by an actuator, moving forwards the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade according to the approach direction;

said detecting by a detection member being of a parameter indicative of the contact between the at least one grinding wheel and the disc-shaped cutting blade;

stopping movement of the at least one grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade.

7. The method according to claim 6 , wherein the parameter indicative of the contact between the at least one grinding wheel and the disc-shaped cutting blade is correlated with an effort of the actuator or is indicative of an angular movement of the at least one grinding wheel.

8. Method according to claim 5 , wherein the approach direction is substantially parallel to an axis of rotation of the at least one grinding wheel.

9. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said detecting by the detection member comprises detecting an angular movement of the at least one grinding wheel.

10. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said detecting is of a parameter of an actuator configured to translate the support with respect to the housing in a direction parallel to an axis of rotation of the shaft.

11. The method according to claim 5 , including at least two grinding wheels and a second controlled approach system to move the second grinding wheel towards the disc-shaped cutting blade.
