Abstract

Methods and systems for a media guidance application (e.g., implemented on a user device) that generates aggregated media assets on related content from different sources.

Claims (62)

1. A method for generating and displaying aggregated follow-up content, the method comprising:

detecting, in a content stream, a first media object;

retrieving, from memory, a first set of keywords associated with the first media object;

detecting, in the content stream, a second media object;

determining whether a second set of keywords associated with the second media object (1) correspond to the first set of keywords by having a majority of the second set of keywords match keywords in the first set of keywords, and (2) comprises at least one additional keyword not in the first set of keywords; and

in response to determining that the second set of keywords correspond to the first set of keywords and comprise at least one additional keyword:

recording, in the memory, a first portion of the content stream in which the first media object occurs and a second portion of the content stream in which the second media object occurs; and

generating for display the first portion and the second portion in series.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting, in the content stream, the first media object comprises:

retrieving a preference from a user profile;

monitoring a plurality of content streams comprising the content stream for a media object that corresponds to the preference; and

detecting in the content stream of the plurality of content streams, the first media object that corresponds to the preference.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein monitoring the plurality of content streams for the media objects further comprises:

parsing each of the plurality of content streams into segments; and

individually analyzing each of the segments for an occurrence of the media object that corresponds to the preference.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting, in the content stream, the second media object further comprises:

determining whether a media object has occurred within a threshold period of time from detection of the first media object; and

in response to determining that the media object has occurred within the threshold period of time from detection of the first media object, identifying the media object as the second media object.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising receiving a user input to modify the threshold period of time.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

comparing the first portion and the second portion of the content stream;

determining, based on the comparing, whether the first portion of the content stream matches the second portion of the content stream; and

in response to determining that the first portion and the second portion match, not recording one of the first portion and the second portion.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the first media object further comprises receiving a user selection of the first media object.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content stream comprises a plurality of streaming media assets, and wherein the first media object is video data, image data, audio data, or textual data included with a streaming media asset of the plurality of streaming media assets.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a first aggregated media asset comprising the first portion and the second portion;

determining a display location for placement in a user interface for the first aggregated media asset;

generating a first aggregated media asset identifier for the first aggregated media asset, wherein the first aggregated media asset identifier corresponds to the first media object; and

generating for display the first aggregated media asset identifier in the user interface at the display location.

10. A system for generating and displaying aggregated follow-up content, the system comprising:

memory; and

control circuitry configured to:

detect, in a content stream, a first media object;

retrieve, from the memory, a first set of keywords associated with the first media object;

detect, in the content stream, a second media object;

determine whether a second set of keywords associated with the second media object (1) correspond to the first set of keywords by having a majority of the second set of keywords match keywords in the first set of keywords, and (2) comprises at least one additional keyword not in the first set of keywords; and

in response to determining that the second set of keywords correspond to the first set of keywords and comprise at least one additional keyword:

record, in the memory, a first portion of the content stream in which the first media object occurs and a second portion of the content stream in which the second media object occurs; and

generate for display the first portion and the second portion in series.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect, in the content stream, the first media object by:

retrieving a preference from a user profile;

monitoring a plurality of content streams comprising the content stream for a media object that corresponds to the preference; and

detecting in the content stream of the plurality of content streams, the first media object that corresponds to the preference.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to monitor the plurality of content streams for the media objects by:

parsing each of the plurality of content streams into segments; and

individually analyzing each of the segments for an occurrence of the media object that corresponds to the preference.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

determine whether a media object has occurred within a threshold period of time from detection of the first media object; and

in response to determining that the media object has occurred within the threshold period of time from detection of the first media object, identify the media object as the second media object.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to receive a user input to modify the threshold period of time.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

compare the first portion and the second portion;

determine, based on the comparing, whether the first portion and the second portion match; and

in response to determining that the first portion and the second portion match, not recording one of the first portion and the second portion.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect the first media object by receiving a user selection of the first media object.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the content stream comprises a plurality of streaming media assets, and wherein the first media object is video data, image data, audio data, or textual data included with a streaming media asset of the plurality of streaming media assets.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

generate a first aggregated media asset comprising the first portion and the second portion;

determine a display location for placement in a user interface for the first aggregated media asset;

generate a first aggregated media asset identifier for the first aggregated media asset, wherein the first aggregated media asset identifier corresponds to the first media object; and

generate for display the first aggregated media asset identifier in the user interface at the display location.
