Abstract

The disclosure provides conspicuity devices and methods. A first embodiment includes a glove with at least one elongate lighting device adapted and configured to admit light having an advantageous spectral energy distribution. Additional articles of clothing are provided herein for enhanced conspicuity, such as for emergency workers and athletes.

Claims (15)

1. A method comprising:

providing a safety system utilizing a plurality of electronic visual conspicuity units for wearing by emergency workers in a working team, each of said visual conspicuity units having a lighting device configured to blink in a unique pattern compared to other units in the plurality of electronic visual conspicuity units, the electronic visual conspicuity units being in selective communication via communications circuitry with at least one processor circuit in a central control unit for use by a supervisor, the at least one processor circuit being programmed to:

receive input from the supervisor, responsive to the supervisor's visual observation of emergency workers under their supervision and environmental conditions to send a request to one of said electronic visual conspicuity units to modify the operational state of a lighting device mounted on said one of said electronic visual conspicuity units, said lighting device being configured to have a unique pattern of blinking distinct from lighting devices mounted on others of said electronic visual conspicuity units; and

transmit an instruction to said one of said electronic visual conspicuity units to modify said operational state of said one of said electronic visual conspicuity units to notify the emergency workers of a dangerous condition.

2. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to emit an auditory alarm that is indicative of the approximate distance between the supervisor and each of said emergency workers.

3. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to emit a first independent auditory alarm corresponding to a close physical range.

4. The computer implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the close range corresponds to a distance between one foot and ten feet.

5. The computer implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to emit a second independent auditory alarm corresponding to an intermediate range.

6. The computer implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the intermediate range corresponds to a distance between ten feet and fifty feet.

7. The computer implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to emit a second independent auditory alarm corresponding to a long range.

8. The computer implemented method of claim 7 , wherein the long range corresponds to a distance between fifty feet and sixteen hundred feet.

9. The computer implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to emit the auditory alarm when one of the emergency workers is outside of a preset distance.

10. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to send an evacuation signal to at least one emergency worker in the working team.

11. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to send an evacuation signal to all emergency workers in the working team.

12. The computer implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor circuit is further programmed to permit two-way communication between said supervisor and at least one emergency worker in the working team.
