Spinal implant with porous and solid surfaces
View Patent ↗A spinal implant including porous and solid portions is disclosed. The implant includes porous portions on upper and lower surfaces and in an interior thereof. Methods of manufacturing and implanting such implants are also disclosed.
1. A spinal implant comprising:
an upper surface including a first porous portion and a first solid portion;
a lower surface including a second porous portion and a second solid portion, and
at least one serration on each of the upper and lower surfaces, the at least one serration including a solid tip and a porous section, the porous section including solid side exterior walls and porous side interior walls.
2. The spinal implant of claim 1 , wherein a cavity is formed through the upper and lower surfaces.
3. The spinal implant of claim 2 , wherein the porous section of the at least one serration on the upper surface is part of the first porous portion, and the porous section of the at least one serration on the lower surface is part of the second porous portion.
4. The spinal implant of claim 3 , wherein the solid tip extends away from the porous section.
5. The spinal implant of claim 4 , wherein the at least one serration includes a solid root.
6. The spinal implant of claim 5 , wherein the solid root extends away from the solid tip and defines a length greater than a thickness of the solid root.
7. The spinal implant of claim 6 , wherein a height defined by the solid tip is less than the length of the solid root.
8. The spinal implant of claim 5 , wherein the solid tip is oriented at an angle between 30 and 50 degrees with respect to the upper and lower surfaces.
9. The spinal implant of claim 3 , wherein the solid side exterior walls extend between the upper and lower surfaces.
10. The spinal implant of claim 9 , wherein the porous section, the first porous portion and the second porous portion define the cavity.
11. The spinal implant of claim 9 , wherein the solid side exterior walls include lateral windows.
12. The spinal implant of claim 11 , wherein the lateral windows taper along the exterior side walls.
13. The spinal implant of claim 1 , wherein the first porous portion and the second porous portion have an average pore diameter between 100 and 1000 microns.
14. The spinal implant of claim 1 , wherein the first porous portion and the second porous portion have an average porosity between 30% and 80%.
15. The spinal implant of claim 1 , wherein the first porous portion and the second porous portion have a thickness between 500 and 4500 microns.
16. The spinal implant of claim 1 , further comprising a threaded opening at a rear section.
17. The spinal implant of claim 1 , wherein the implant includes a nose disposed between the upper and lower surfaces, the nose being configured to distract vertebral bodies during insertion of the implant to facilitate insertion of the implant in a first orientation and rotation to a second orientation.
