Abstract

Reputation-based transaction security. In one embodiment, a method for reputation-based transaction security may include obtaining data regarding a user device associated with a first party; obtaining data regarding an intended second party, the user device being used in a transaction between the first party and the intended second party; calculating a reputation score based on the data obtained regarding the user device and the intended second party; determining a likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party based on determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold; and automatically initiating a remedial action to the user device based on determining the likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party.

Claims (49)

1. A computer-implemented method for reputation-based transaction security, at least a portion of the method being performed by a computing device comprising one or more processors, the method comprising:

obtaining data regarding a user device associated with a first party;

obtaining data regarding an intended second party, the data obtained regarding the intended second party comprising a total number of transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over a pre-determined period of time and a percentage of a pre-determined number of the most recent transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party that are trustworthy transactions, the user device being used in a transaction between the first party and the intended second party;

calculating a reputation score based on the data obtained regarding the user device and the intended second party;

determining a likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party based on determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold; and

automatically initiating a remedial action to the user device based on determining the likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining data regarding the user device further comprises:

obtaining location information of the user device with respect to a location of the intended second party, historical transaction data initiated by the user device, or a combination thereof.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining data regarding the intended second party further comprises:

obtaining location information of a point-of-sale computer device associated with the intended second party, historical transaction data associated with the intended second party, a server identification number (ID) associated with the intended second party, a server ID associated with the transaction, a vendor ID associated with the intended second party, a vendor ID associated with the transaction, a web address associated with the intended second party, a web address associated with the transaction, or a combination thereof.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein calculating the reputation score further comprises:

applying a weighted value to each of the datum obtained regarding the user device, the intended second party, or a combination thereof.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold further comprises:

determining that the reputation score satisfies the pre-determined threshold established by an administrator.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold further comprises:

determining that the reputation score satisfies the pre-determined threshold established by the first party.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein automatically initiating the remedial action to the user device further comprises:

issuing a notification to the first party on the user device.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

initiating the transaction with an intended recipient by initiating a communication over a network connection with the intended second party.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein initiating the communication further comprises:

initiating the communication by way of a short-range wireless communication between the user device and the intended second party.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the short-range wireless communication is a near-field communication or a Bluetooth communication.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein initiating the communication further comprises:

scanning, with a camera coupled to the user device, an optical machine-readable image at a location associated with the intended second party.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein scanning the optical machine-readable image further comprises:

scanning a barcode or a QR code.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the transaction is a financial transaction.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the total number of transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over the pre-determined period of time comprises the total number of trustworthy transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over the pre-determined period of time.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein the data obtained regarding the intended second party further comprises a percentage of the total number of transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over the pre-determined period of time that are trustworthy transactions.

16. A mobile device for reputation-based transaction security, comprising:

a processor;

a memory in electronic communication with the processor; and

instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:

obtain data regarding a user device associated with a first party;

obtain data regarding an intended second party, the data obtained regarding the intended second party comprising a total number of transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over a pre-determined period of time and a percentage of a pre-determined number of the most recent transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party that are trustworthy transactions, the user device being used in a transaction between the first party and the intended second party;

calculate a reputation score based on the data obtained regarding the user device and the intended second party;

determine a likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party based on determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold; and

automatically initiate a remedial action to the user device based on determining the likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party.

17. The mobile device of claim 16 , wherein when the processor obtains data regarding the user device, the instructions are further executable to:

obtain location information of the user device with respect to a location of an intended recipient, historical transaction data initiated by the user device, or a combination thereof.

18. The mobile device of claim 16 , wherein when the processor obtains data regarding the intended second party, the instructions are further executable to:

obtaining location information of a point-of-sale computer device associated with the intended second party, historical transaction data associated with the intended second party, a server identification number (ID) associated with the intended second party, a server ID associated with the transaction, a vendor ID associated with the intended second party, a vendor ID associated with the transaction, a web address associated with the intended second party, a web address associated with the transaction, or a combination thereof.

19. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising one or more computer readable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing device, cause the computing device to perform a method for reputation-based transaction security, the method comprising:

obtaining data regarding a user device associated with a first party;

obtaining data regarding an intended second party, the data obtained regarding the intended second party comprising a total number of transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party over a pre-determined period of time and a percentage of a pre-determined number of the most recent transactions that have occurred between any party and the second party that are trustworthy transactions, the user device being used in a transaction between the first party and the intended second party;

calculating a reputation score based on the data obtained regarding the user device and the intended second party;

determining a likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party based on determining that the reputation score satisfies a pre-determined threshold; and

automatically initiating a remedial action to the user device based on determining the likelihood that resources related to the transaction will be received by the intended second party.
