Abstract

An example of the claim method includes, in response to detecting a rejected media unit, directing a media feed path towards a reject area. The method includes depositing the rejected media unit into the reject area. The reject area is defined by a cassette surface on a body of the ribbon cassette. The ribbon cassette is unable to be removed from the media processing device until the rejected media unit is removed from the cassette surface.

Claims (24)

1. A method for positioning rejected media units in a location viewable when replacing a ribbon cassette within a media processing device, the method comprising:

in response to detecting a rejected media unit, directing a media feed path towards a reject area; and

depositing the rejected media unit into the reject area, wherein:

the reject area is defined by a cassette surface on a body of the ribbon cassette, and

the ribbon cassette is unable to be removed from the media processing device until the rejected media unit is removed from the cassette surface.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reject area is further defined by an inner surface of the media processing device.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the rejected media unit rests on the inner surface of the media processing device and the cassette surface.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the inner surface of the media processing device is parallel with the cassette surface.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein depositing the media unit into the reject area comprises propelling the rejected media unit via a biased roller.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reject area is a secured area within the media processing device accessible by secured access.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the secured access requires a key to enter.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reject area is enclosed within the media processing device.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the rejected area is separate from a non-rejected media unit.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein directing the media feed path towards the reject area comprises rotating a card flipper in a first direction.

11. An apparatus for collecting a rejected media unit in a media processing device, the apparatus comprising:

means for detecting the rejected media unit;

means for directing a media feed path towards a reject area;

means for storing the rejected media unit in a position that requires the rejected media unit to be removed prior to removing a ribbon cassette from the apparatus, wherein

the means for storing positions the rejected media unit between the ribbon cassette and an opening of the media processing device used for removal of the ribbon cassette.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the reject area is a secured area within the media processing device accessible by secured access.

13. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the secured access requires a key to enter.

14. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the means for storing positions the rejected media unit to rest on a first support platform and a second support platform.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the first support platform and the second platform are parallel.

16. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the rejected area is separate from a non-rejected media unit.
