Abstract

The invention first relates to a composition comprising at least 99 wt. % of 1,1,1,3,3 -pentachloropropane and at least one compound selected from a list of additional compounds consisting of dichloropropanes, trichloropropanes, tetrachloropropanes, pentachloropropanes different from 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane, hexachloropropanes, heptachloropropanes, chloropropenes, dichloropropenes, trichloropropenes, tetrachloropropenes, pentachloropropenes and hexachloropropene, the weight content of said compound in the composition being lower than or equal to 500 ppm.

Claims (10)

1. A composition comprising 99% by weight 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane (240fa) and two or more compounds selected from the group consisting of F-240da, F-240db, F-240aa, and F-240ab, said two or more compounds being present in the composition in a weight content of less than 500 ppm.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the collective weight content of the two or more compounds is less than 500 ppm.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said two or more compounds are present in the composition in a weight content of less than or equal to 250 ppm.

The composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more additional compounds selected from the group consisting of dichloropropanes, trichloropropanes, tetrachloropropanes, hexachloropropanes, heptachloropropanes, chloropropenes, dichloropropenes, trichloropropenes, tetrachloropropenes, pentachloropropenes and hexachloropropene, each of the one or more additional compounds being present in the composition in a weight content of less than or equal to 500 ppm.

The composition of claim 1 , further comprising one or more additional compounds selected from the group consisting of dichloropropanes, trichloropropanes, tetrachloropropanes, hexachloropropanes, heptachloropropanes, chloropropenes, dichloropropenes, trichloropropenes, tetrachloropropenes, pentachloropropenes and hexachloropropene, the total weight content of all of the additional compounds being less than or equal to 1000 ppm.

6. The composition of claim 1 , comprising at least 99.5% by weight 1,1,1,3,3-pentachloropropane.

7. A process for producing 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene; comprising:

providing the composition as claimed in claim 1 ; and

reacting the composition with hydrofluoric acid.

8. The process of claim 7 , wherein 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene is in trans form.
