Abstract

Techniques are described for establishing a two-way voice communication session with an alarm system. The alarm system may establish a two-way voice communication session with an operator associated with a monitoring service that provides monitoring services for alarm events detected by the alarm system. The alarm system also may establish a two-way voice communication session with a notification recipient that is interested in receiving notifications associated with events detected by the alarm system.

Claims (47)

1. A method of establishing a two-way voice communication session with a notification recipient, the method comprising:

receiving, by a recipient device of a notification recipient, a data communication that notifies the notification recipient of an event detected by a monitoring component located at a property, the recipient device of the notification recipient being located separate from the property;

based on receipt of the data communication, rendering, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a display of the data communication that indicates the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property;

rendering, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a display of a control configured to receive, from the notification recipient, user input to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property;

receiving, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, user input from the control to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property; and

based on receipt of the user input from the control to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property, establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, a two-way voice communication session in which the notification recipient is able to listen-in to an area proximate to the monitoring component and communicate with people in the area proximate to the monitoring component.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises transmitting, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a command for the monitoring component to initiate a voice call to the recipient device.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the recipient device is a mobile phone.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises establishing a voice call with the mobile phone.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein rendering the display of the control comprises rendering the display of the control with additional sensed information about the event.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein rendering the display of the control comprises rendering the display of the control with detailed information associated with a specific condition that triggered detection of the event.

7. The method of claim 1 :

wherein receiving the data communication that notifies the notification recipient of the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property comprises receiving the data communication over a wireless data channel; and

wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises establishing the two-way voice communication session over a wireless voice channel that is different than the wireless data channel.

8. The method of claim 7 :

wherein the wireless data channel comprises a wireless data channel within a cellular network; and

wherein the wireless voice channel comprises a wireless voice channel within the cellular network.

9. A recipient device comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one computer-readable storage medium coupled to the at least one processor having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving a data communication that notifies a notification recipient of an event detected by a monitoring component located at a property, the recipient device of the notification recipient being located separate from the property;

based on receipt of the data communication, rendering a display of the data communication that indicates the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property;

rendering a display of a control configured to receive, from the notification recipient, user input to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property;

receiving user input from the control to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property; and

based on receipt of the user input from the control to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property, establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, a two-way voice communication session in which the notification recipient is able to listen-in to an area proximate to the monitoring component and communicate with people in the area proximate to the monitoring component.

10. The recipient device of claim 9 , wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises transmitting, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a command for the monitoring component to initiate a voice call to the recipient device.

11. The recipient device of claim 9 , wherein the recipient device is a mobile phone.

12. The recipient device of claim 11 , wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises establishing a voice call with the mobile phone.

13. The recipient device of claim 9 , wherein rendering the display of the control comprises rendering the display of the control with additional sensed information about the event.

14. The recipient device of claim 9 , wherein rendering the display of the control comprises rendering the display of the control with detailed information associated with a specific condition that triggered detection of the event.

15. The recipient device of claim 9 :

wherein receiving the data communication that notifies the notification recipient of the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property comprises receiving the data communication over a wireless data channel; and

wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises establishing the two-way voice communication session over a wireless voice channel that is different than the wireless data channel.

16. The recipient device of claim 15 :

wherein the wireless data channel comprises a wireless data channel within a cellular network; and

wherein the wireless voice channel comprises a wireless voice channel within the cellular network.

17. At least one computer-readable storage medium coupled to the at least one processor having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

receiving, by a recipient device of a notification recipient, a data communication that notifies the notification recipient of an event detected by a monitoring component located at a property, the recipient device of the notification recipient being located separate from the property;

based on receipt of the data communication, rendering, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a display of the data communication that indicates the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property;

rendering, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a display of a control configured to receive, from the notification recipient, user input to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property;

receiving, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, user input from the control to initiate a two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property; and

based on receipt of the user input from the control to initiate the two-way voice communication session with the monitoring component located at the property, establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, a two-way voice communication session in which the notification recipient is able to listen-in to an area proximate to the monitoring component and communicate with people in the area proximate to the monitoring component.

18. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises transmitting, by the recipient device of the notification recipient, a command for the monitoring component to initiate a voice call to the recipient device.

19. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 , wherein the recipient device is a mobile phone.

20. The at least one computer-readable storage medium of claim 17 :

wherein receiving the data communication that notifies the notification recipient of the event detected by the monitoring component located at the property comprises receiving the data communication over a wireless data channel; and

wherein establishing, between the recipient device and the monitoring component located at the property, the two-way voice communication session comprises establishing the two-way voice communication session over a wireless voice channel that is different than the wireless data channel.
