Abstract

Methods and systems are described herein for a media guidance application that coordinates the display of direction-specific media assets on a display device associated with a particular direction. For example, the media guidance application may receive data (e.g., stored when an image or video was created) that indicates a direction a content capture device was facing when the image or video was captured. Based on that data, the media guidance application may select a particular display device (e.g., a computer, tablet, television, etc.) that corresponds to the direction (e.g., from the point of view of a user) on which to present the media asset.

Claims (50)

1. A method of selecting media content for display on user devices, the method comprising:

receiving a first media asset, captured by a content capture device at a first time, associated with a first location;

receiving a second media asset, captured by the content capture device at a second time, associated with the first location, wherein the second media asset is different from the first media asset and wherein the second time is different than the first time;

determining a first direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the first media asset;

determining a second direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the second media asset, wherein the second direction is different than the first direction;

receiving a user input requesting to generate a display of media assets associated with the first location at a second location;

in response to receiving the user input, receiving data associated with a plurality of media assets captured by the content capture device, associated with the first location, wherein the data indicates the direction the content capture device faced when capturing the plurality of media assets;

in response to receiving the data, selecting the first media asset and the second media asset from the plurality of media assets associated with the first location based on the data; and

generating for simultaneous display at the second location, the first media asset captured at the first time while the content capture device was facing the first direction on a first display device that is facing the same first direction and the second media asset captured at the second time while the content capture device was facing the second direction on a second display device that is facing the same second direction, wherein the first display device is a separate device from the second display device and is associated with a different direction than the second display device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating for simultaneous display comprises:

determining that the first display device is associated with the first direction at the second location; and

generating a display of the first media asset on the first display device in response to determining that the first direction at the first location corresponds to the first direction at the second location.

3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

in response to receiving the user input, detecting the second display device associated with the second direction at the second location; and

generating a display of the second media asset on the second display device in response to determining that the second direction at the first location corresponds to the second direction at the second location.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content capture device includes a compass used to determine the first direction at the first location.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first direction at the first location and the first direction at the second location both correspond to a frame of reference that is stationary relative to Earth's magnetic poles.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the first display device is associated with the first direction at the second location based on data associated with an accelerometer in the first display device.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the first display device is associated with the first direction at the second location based on data associated with a user setting for the first display device.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a display of the first media asset on the first display device in response to determining that a current time corresponds to the first time.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first media asset is a video, and wherein determining the first direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the first media asset further comprises determining a direction that the content capture device faced when capturing each frame of the first media asset.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the display of the first media asset on the first display device further comprises selecting a frame of the first media asset for display on the first display device based on determining that the frame corresponds to the first direction at the first location.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

modifying an object of the first media asset to associate the object with a current time of display; and

displaying first media asset with the modified object when generating the simultaneous display at the second location.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, generating secondary content for display on the first display device, wherein the secondary content is associated with first direction of the first location.

13. A system of selecting media content for display on user devices, the system comprising control circuitry configured to:

receive a first media asset, captured by a content capture device at a first time, associated with a first location;

receive a second media asset, captured by the content capture device at a second time, associated with the first location, wherein the second media asset is different from the first media asset and wherein the second time is different than the first time;

determine a first direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the first media asset;

determine a second direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the second media asset, wherein the second direction is different than the first direction;

receive a user input requesting to generate a display of media assets associated with the first location at a second location;

in response to receiving the user input, receive data associated with a plurality of media assets captured by the content capture device, associated with the first location, wherein the data indicates the direction the content capture device faced when capturing the plurality of media assets;

in response to receiving the data, select the first media asset and the second media asset from the plurality of media assets associated with the first location based on the data; and

generate for simultaneous display at the second location, the first media asset captured at the first time while the content capture device was facing the first direction on a first display device that is facing the same first direction and the second media asset captured at the second time while the content capture device was facing the second direction on a second display device that is facing the same second direction, wherein the first display device is a separate device from the second display device and is associated with a different direction than the second display device.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to generate for simultaneous display by:

determining that the first display device is associated with the first direction at the second location; and

generating a display of the first media asset on the first display device in response to determining that the first direction at the first location corresponds to the first direction at the second location.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

in response to receiving the user input, detect the second display device associated with the second direction at the second location; and

generate a display of the second media asset on the second display device in response to determining that the second direction at the first location corresponds to the second direction at the second location.

16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the content capture device includes a compass used to determine the first direction at the first location.

17. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first direction at the first location and the first direction at the second location both correspond to a frame of reference that is stationary relative to Earth's magnetic poles.

18. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine the first display device is associated with the first direction at the second location based on data associated with an accelerometer in the first display device.

20. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:

generate a display of the first media asset on the first display device in response to determining that a current time corresponds to the first time.

21. The system of claim 13 , wherein the first media asset is a video, and wherein the control circuitry is further configured to determine the first direction at the first location that the content capture device faced when capturing the first media asset by determining a direction that the content capture device faced when capturing each frame of the first media asset.

22. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to generate the display of the first media asset on the first display device by selecting a frame of the first media asset for display on the first display device based on determining that the frame corresponds to the first direction at the first location.
