Abstract

A package includes a container and a closure cap for mounting on the container. The closure cap is coupled to a neck of the container to block selectively removal of product stored within the container at the selection of a user.

Claims (38)

1. A closure cap for a container comprising

a top wall having a central cover and a spacer wall arranged to extend radially away from the central cover,

an annular inner sleeve arranged to extend downwardly away from the top wall,

the central cover and annular inner sleeve cooperating to define a product-receiving region configured to receive product therein,

an annular outer sleeve coupled to the top wall and arranged to extend around the annular inner sleeve, wherein the annular outer sleeve is arranged to extend downwardly away from the top wall, and

an outer shell arranged to extend around the inner annular sleeve and coupled to the top wall via the annular outer sleeve,

wherein the annular outer sleeve is coupled to the spacer wall and spaced radially outward from the annular inner sleeve and the annular inner sleeve, spacer wall, and annular outer sleeve cooperate to define a residual-product catch basin,

wherein the residual-product catch basin is configured to collect residual product remaining on the annular inner sleeve after a user discharges product into the product-receiving region to allow the residual product to flow back out of the residual-product catch basin away from the spacer wall, and

wherein the outer shell includes an annular inner sidewall and an annular outer sidewall, the annular inner sidewall is configured to engage with a neck of the container, and the annular outer sidewall is arranged to extend around the inner sidewall.

2. The closure cap of claim 1 , wherein the outer shell is arranged to extend away from the top wall.

3. The closure cap of claim 2 , further comprising a lock tab coupled to the outer shell and configured to engage with a tab blocker coupled to the container in a fixed position relative to the container to block rotation of the closure cap relative to the container at the selection of a user.

4. The closure cap of claim 3 , further comprising a plug wall coupled to the outer shell and an annular rim sealer coupled to the outer shell to locate radially the plug wall between a longitudinal axis of the closure cap and the annular rim sealer.

5. The closure cap of claim 4 , wherein the lock tab is spaced apart from the tab blocker and the plug wall and the annular rim sealer are configured to be engageable with the container to seal an opening formed by the container when the closure cap is mounted on the container at a first angular position about the axis, and the lock tab is configured to be engageable with the tab blocker and the plug wall is configured to be engageable with the container to seal the opening of the container while the annular rim sealer is spaced apart from the container when the closure cap is mounted on the container at a second angular position about the axis.

6. The closure cap of claim 2 , further comprising a tamper-evident band coupled to the outer shell and configured to engage with the container to block rotation of the closure relative to the container at the selection of a user after the closure cap is mounted on the container.

7. The closure cap of claim 6 , wherein the tamper evident band includes a frangible strip connected to the outer shell and retention tabs configured to engage with a retainer.

8. The closure cap of claim 7 , wherein the lock tab is positioned between adjacent retention tabs when the tamper-evident band is coupled to the outer shell.

9. The closure cap of claim 2 , wherein the outer shell is formed to include a pad on the outer shell configured to be engaged by a user to cause the lock tab to move radially outward of the tab blocker to disengage the lock tab from the tab blocker and allow removal of the closure cap from the container.

10. The closure cap of claim 9 , wherein the pad is angularly spaced apart from the lock tab by about 90 degrees around the axis.

11. The closure cap of claim 9 , wherein the pad is angularly spaced apart from the lock tab by less than about 90 degrees around the axis.

12. The closure cap of claim 2 , wherein the outer shell includes an internal thread configured to rotationally engage an outer thread of the neck of the container.

13. A closure cap and pour-spout insert combination for a container, the closure cap and pour-spout insert combination comprising

a closure cap top wall having a spacer wall and a closure cap annular inner sleeve arranged to extend downwardly away from the top wall,

a closure cap annular outer sleeve coupled to the top wall and arranged to extend around the annular inner sleeve, wherein the annular outer sleeve is arranged to extend downwardly away from the top wall,

a closure cap outer shell arranged to extend around the closure cap inner annular sleeve and coupled to the closure cap top wall via the annular outer sleeve,

wherein the annular outer sleeve is coupled to the spacer wall and spaced radially outward from the annular inner sleeve and the annular inner sleeve, spacer wall, and annular outer sleeve cooperate to define a residual-product catch basin,

wherein the residual-product catch basin is configured to collect residual product remaining on the annular inner sleeve after a user discharges product from the annular inner sleeve to allow the residual product to flow back out of the residual-product catch basin away from the spacer wall,

a pour-spout insert configured to be coupled to a container opening through which product may be dispensed from the container through the pour spout insert and into the annular inner sleeve of the closure cap,

the pour-spout insert including a product drainback cup at least partially defined by an insert bottom wall and an insert annular wall,

the pour-spout insert annular wall extending upwardly from the insert bottom wall and the insert annular wall arranged radially outwardly of a discharge tube that extends upwardly from the insert bottom wall,

wherein the discharge tube of the pour-spout insert has a smaller outer dimension than an outer dimension of the annular inner sleeve of the closure cap such that the discharge tube may be at least partially inserted into the annular inner sleeve when the closure cap is in a closed position selectively blocking discharge of product from the discharge tube, and

wherein the closure cap outer shell includes an annular inner sidewall and an annular outer sidewall, the inner sidewall is configured to engage with a neck of the container, and the outer sidewall is arranged to extend around the inner sidewall.

14. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 13 , further comprising a drainback aperture formed in the product drainback cup to allow residual product to flow from the residual-product catch basin of the closure cap through the drainback aperture into the container when the closure cap is mounted on the container.

15. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 14 , wherein a portion of the drainback aperture is formed in the bottom wall of the pour-spout insert.

16. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 14 , wherein a portion of the drainback aperture is formed in the annular wall of the pour-spout insert.

17. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 14 , wherein a first portion of the drainback aperture is formed in the annular wall of the pour-spout insert and a second portion of the drainback aperture is formed in the bottom wall of the pour-spout insert.

18. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 14 , wherein a first portion of the discharge tube has a first length, a second portion of the discharge tube has a second length, the first length is greater than the second length, and the second portion of the discharge tube is located between the first portion of the discharge tube and the drainback aperture.

19. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 14 , wherein the first portion of the discharge tube, the second portion of the discharge tube, and the drainback aperture are substantially aligned.

20. The closure cap and pour-spout insert combination of claim 19 , wherein the pour-spout insert is formed about a longitudinal axis which is located between the first portion of the discharge tube and the second portion of the discharge tube.
