Abstract

Techniques for in-place directive execution are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus may comprise a local network component operative to receive a directive package at a messaging client on a client device, the directive package formatted according to a serialized directive schema; and store the directive package in a memory of the client device in the serialized directive schema; and a local database synchronization component operative to execute the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Claims (38)

1. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a directive package at a messaging client on a client device, the directive package formatted according to a serialized directive schema;

storing the directive package in a memory storage space within a memory of the client device in the serialized directive schema; and

executing the directive package using in-place access of the directive package within the memory storage space of the serialized directive schema for the messaging client, and

wherein any additional memory used in the execution of the directive package is on a memory stack of the client device.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein storing the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises a direct non-rearranging copy from the received directive package.

3. The method of claim 1 , the serialized directive schema encoding an integrity check field, further comprising:

verifying the directive package based on the integrity check field to produce a successful verification of the directive package; and

executing the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device in response to the successful verification of the directive package based on the integrity check field.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein executing the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises executing the directive package directly from a memory location of the memory of the client device without copying content out of the directive package.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the directive package is executed using a messaging-sync virtual machine.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the directive package is executed to modify a local messaging database of the messaging client.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein local user interface components of the messaging client are operative to refresh using the local messaging database as an intermediary to refresh in response to the directive package.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

at least one processor operable to execute to stored instructions that, when executed, cause the at least one processor to:

receive a directive package at a messaging client on a client device, the directive package formatted according to a serialized directive schema;

store the directive package in a memory storage space within a memory of the client device in the serialized directive schema; and

execute the directive package using in-place access of the directive package within the memory storage space of the serialized directive schema for the messaging client, and

wherein any additional memory used in the execution of the directive package is on a memory stack of the client device.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein storing the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises a direct non-rearranging copy from the received directive package.

10. The apparatus of claim 8 , the serialized directive schema encoding an integrity check field, further comprising:

the at least one processor further caused to verify the directive package based on the integrity check field to produce a successful verification of the directive package; and execute the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device in response to the successful verification of the directive package based on the integrity check field.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein executing the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises executing the directive package directly from a memory location of the memory of the client device without copying content out of the directive package.

12. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the directive package is executed using a messaging-sync virtual machine.

13. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the directive package is executed to modify a local messaging database of the messaging client.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein local user interface components of the messaging client are operative to refresh using the local messaging database as an intermediary to refresh in response to the directive package.

15. At least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a system to:

receive a directive package at a messaging client on a client device, the directive package formatted according to a serialized directive schema;

store the directive package in a memory storage space within a memory of the client device in the serialized directive schema; and

execute the directive package using in-place access of the directive package within the memory storage space of the serialized directive schema for the messaging client, and

wherein any additional memory used in the execution of the directive package is on a memory stack of the client device.

16. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein storing the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises a direct non-rearranging copy from the received directive package.

17. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , the serialized directive schema encoding an integrity check field, comprising further instructions that, when executed, cause the system to:

verify the directive package based on the integrity check field to produce a successful verification of the directive package; and

execute the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device in response to the successful verification of the directive package based on the integrity check field.

18. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein executing the directive package using in-place access of the directive package in the memory of the client device comprises executing the directive package directly from a memory location of the memory of the client device without copying content out of the directive package.

19. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the directive package is executed using a messaging-sync virtual machine.

20. The at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the directive package is executed to modify a local messaging database of the messaging client, wherein local user interface components of the messaging client are operative to refresh using the local messaging database as an intermediary to refresh in response to the directive package.
