Abstract

To share snips of content, content access metadata of a content file is parsed to identify an accessible range of the content file and an inaccessible range of the content file with reference to content access rules for a user. A user can identify a selection of a snip of the accessible range of the content file in a user interface. Once the selection is identified, a copy of the snip of the content file, a link to the snip of the content file, or both can be generated and forwarded to the user. The link can include an argument that identifies a start and an end of the snip. The link can also include other arguments, such as copy snip, access rule, or expiration arguments. The copy of the snip can also be limited by the start and end of the snip.

Claims (58)

1. A method for content snip capture and sharing, comprising:

presenting, by at least one computing device, an indicator of at least one accessible range of a content file and at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on content access rules; and

identifying, by the at least one computing device, a selection of a snip of the content file within the at least one accessible range of the content file.

2. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

generating, by the at least one computing device, at least one of a copy of the snip of the content file or a link to the snip of the content file.

3. The method according to claim 2 , further comprising:

receiving a request for access to the content file from a client device, the request including at least one argument; and

determining, by the at least one computing device, whether access to the content file is permitted based on the at least one argument and the content access rules.

4. The method according to claim 3 , further comprising:

in an instance in which access to the content file is permitted, forwarding, by the at least one computing device, at least one of the copy of the snip of the content file or the link to the snip of the content file to the client device; and

in an instance in which access to the content file is not permitted, informing, by the at least one computing device, the client device that access to the content file is denied.

5. The method according to claim 3 , wherein:

the generating comprises generating, by the at least one computing device, at least one of the copy of the snip of the content file or the link to the snip of the content file based on at least one argument; and

the at least one argument comprises at least one of a snip start argument, a snip end argument, an access rule argument, or an expiration argument.

The method according to claim 1 , further comprising parsing, by the at least one computing device, content access metadata of the content file to identify the at least one accessible range of the content file and the at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on the content access rules.

7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving an identifier of a plurality of recipients for the content file;

parsing, by the at least one computing device, content access metadata of the content file to identify at least one accessible range of the content file for each of the plurality of recipients based on content access rules for the plurality of recipients; and

presenting, by the at least one computing device, an indicator of the at least one accessible range of the content file for each of the plurality of recipients.

8. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving annotation data for the snip of the content file; and

generating, by the at least one computing device, snip metadata, the snip metadata including the annotation data for the snip of the content file.

9. A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying program code executable in at least one computing device for content snip capture and sharing, the program code being configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

present an indicator of at least one accessible range of a content file and at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on content access rules; and

identify a selection of a snip of the content file within the at least one accessible range of the content file.

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 9 , the program code being further configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

generate at least one of a copy of the snip of the content file or a link to the snip of the content file.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 10 , the program code being further configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

receive a request for access to the content file from a client device, the request including at least one argument; and

determine whether access to the content file is permitted based on the at least one argument and the content access rules.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 11 , the program code being further configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

in an instance in which access to the content file is permitted, forward at least one of the copy of the snip of the content file or the link to the snip of the content file to the client device; and

in an instance in which access to the content file is not permitted, inform the client device that access to the content file is denied.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 11 , the program code being further configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

generate at least one of the copy of the snip of the content file or the link to the snip of the content file based on at least one argument, wherein

the at least one argument comprises at least one of a snip start argument, a snip end argument, an access rule argument, or an expiration argument.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 9 , the program code being further configured to cause the at least one computing device to at least:

parse content access metadata of the content file to identify the at least one accessible range of the content file and the at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on the content access rules.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 9 , the program code being further configured to at least:

receive an identifier of a plurality of recipients for the content file;

parse content access metadata of the content file to identify at least one accessible range of the content file for each of the plurality of recipients based on content access rules for the plurality of recipients; and

present an indicator of the at least one accessible range of the content file for each of the plurality of recipients.

16. A system for content snip capture and sharing, comprising:

at least one memory device to store computer-readable instructions thereon; and

at least one computing device configured, through execution of the computer-readable instructions, to:

present an indicator of at least one accessible range of a content file and at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on content access rules; and

identify a selection of a snip of the content file within the at least one accessible range of the content file.

17. The system according to claim 16 , the at least one computing device being further configured to at least:

receive a request for access to the content file from a client device, the request including at least one argument; and

determine whether access to the content file is permitted based on the at least one argument and the content access rules.

18. The system according to claim 17 , the at least one computing device being further configured to at least:

in an instance in which access to the content file is permitted,

generate at least one of a copy of the snip of the content file or a link to the snip of the content file; and

forward at least one of the copy of the snip of the content file or the link to the snip of the content file to the client device.

19. The system according to claim 17 , the at least one computing device being further configured to at least:

in an instance in which access to the content file is not permitted, inform the client device that access to the content file is denied.

20. The system according to claim 16 , the at least one computing device being further configured to at least:

parse content access metadata of the content file to identify the at least one accessible range of the content file and the at least one inaccessible range of the content file based on the content access rules.
