Abstract

An aspiration system includes a pump and a control system in communication with the pump. The control system includes a microcontroller, an antenna configured to receive a signal, and a pump control board in communication with the microcontroller. The antenna is in communication with the microcontroller. Upon receiving the signal, the pump control board operates the pump to create negative pressure according to the signal.

Claims (30)

1 . A method of treating a brain bleed using a repetitive cyclical pattern for aspiration, the method comprising:

forming a burr-hole in a skull;

inserting a distal end of a single-lumen cannula through the burr-hole;

choosing the cyclical pattern from a plurality of provided cyclical patterns, the cyclical pattern comprising repetition of a first suction level, a second suction level different than the first suction level, and a third suction level different than the first suction level and the second suction level, wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a crescendo suction pattern or a diminuendo suction pattern; and

aspirating blood through the cannula according to the chosen cyclical pattern by an automated negative suction device, the brain bleed comprising an intracerebral hemorrhage, an intra-ventricular hemorrhage, or a subdural hematoma.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the cannula is configured to be inserted through a port of a neuro-endoscope.

3 . A method of treating a brain bleed using a repetitive cyclical pattern for aspiration, the method comprising:

inserting a distal end of a cannula through a burr-hole in a skull;

selecting the cyclical pattern from a plurality of provided cyclical patterns or creating the cyclical pattern, the cyclical pattern comprising repetition of a first suction level and a second suction level different than the first suction level, wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a crescendo suction pattern or a diminuendo suction pattern; and

aspirating blood through the cannula according to the selected cyclical pattern by an automated negative suction device.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the brain bleed is an intracerebral hemorrhage.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the brain bleed is an intra-ventricular hemorrhage.

6 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the brain bleed is a subdural hematoma.

7 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a third suction level different than the first suction level and the second suction level.

8 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the cannula comprises a single lumen cannula.

9 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the cannula is configured to be inserted through a port of a neuro-endoscope.

10 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the brain bleed is an intracerebral hemorrhage, wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a crescendo suction pattern or a diminuendo suction pattern, and wherein the cannula comprises a single lumen cannula.

11 . A method of treating a brain bleed using a repetitive cyclical pattern for aspiration, the method comprising:

inserting a distal end of a cannula through a burr-hole in a skull;

selecting the cyclical pattern from a plurality of provided cyclical patterns or creating the cyclical pattern, the cyclical pattern comprising repetition of a first suction level and a second suction level different than the first suction level; and

aspirating blood through the cannula according to the selected cyclical pattern by an automated negative suction device.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the brain bleed is an intracerebral hemorrhage.

13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the brain bleed is an intra-ventricular hemorrhage.

14 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the brain bleed is a subdural hematoma.

15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a third suction level different than the first suction level and the second suction level.

16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a crescendo suction pattern or a diminuendo suction pattern.

17 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cannula comprises a single lumen cannula.

18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cannula is configured to be inserted through a port of a neuro-endoscope.

19 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the cannula is in communication with a switch.

20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the brain bleed is an intracerebral hemorrhage, wherein the cyclical pattern comprises a crescendo suction pattern or a diminuendo suction pattern, and wherein the cannula comprises a single lumen cannula.
