Abstract

Locking devices that may be used with product display hooks, cabinets, and drawers are provided. A locking device according to one implementation comprising a housing and a shell. The housing includes an outer wall that defines an interior. The housing further includes a channel extending at least partially through the interior of the housing. The shell includes a projection. The shell is at least partially disposed within the interior of the housing and is moveable in a longitudinal direction within the interior of the housing. In an unlocked position, the projection is biased away from the first channel. In a locked position, the projection is maintained in the first channel.

Claims (35)

1. A locking device comprising:

a housing including an outer wall defining a hollow interior, the hollow interior having a first longitudinal axis, the housing further including a first channel extending from at least one aperture in the outer wall to the interior of the housing, the first channel traversing the first longitudinal axis;

an inner body mounted inside the interior of the housing, the inner body including an interior and a first slot;

a cylindrical shell including a projection, the cylindrical shell being at least partially disposed in the interior of the inner body and moveable within the interior of the inner body along the first longitudinal axis relative to the inner body and housing;

a cylinder plug including a key hole and an arced channel, the cylinder plug contained within the cylindrical shell and rotatable relative to the cylindrical shell when a proper key is inserted in the key hole and rotated; and

a barrel pin disposed through a wall of the cylindrical shell, such that a first portion of the barrel pin projects toward the interior of the cylindrical shell into the arced channel to rotatably retain the cylinder plug in the cylindrical shell, and a second portion of the barrel pin projects toward the exterior of the cylindrical shell into the slot of the inner body to control the longitudinal motion of the cylindrical shell;

wherein the first channel is configured to receive a wire to be locked, and wherein, in the locked position, the projection is extended into the first channel and maintained in the first channel to secure the wire.

The locking device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one aperture in the outer wall of the housing includes a first aperture and a second aperture, the first channel extending from the first aperture to the second aperture, such that, in the locked position, the projection provides a clamping force against a side of the wire.

The locking device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one aperture in the outer wall of the housing includes a single aperture, the first channel extending from the single aperture to an opposite wall, wherein the wire to be locked includes a hook or loop, and wherein, in the locked position, the projection extends into an area surrounded by the hook or loop.

4. The locking device of claim 1 , further comprising a plunger locking bolt movably mounted on the cylindrical shell, wherein the inner body includes a second slot that receives the plunger locking bolt to maintain the projection in the locked position.

5. The locking device of claim 1 , further comprising a barrel spring at least partially contained within the interior of the housing, the barrel spring configured to bias the projection of the cylindrical shell away from the first channel to an unlocked position.

6. A locking device comprising:

a housing having an opening to an interior of the housing, the interior including a first longitudinal axis, the housing further including a first channel extending from at least one aperture in a wall of the housing to the interior of the housing;

an inner body mounted inside the interior of the housing, the inner body including an interior and a first slot;

a cylindrical shell including a projection, the cylindrical shell being disposed through the opening of the housing and into the interior of the inner body and moveable within the interior of the inner body along the first longitudinal axis relative to the inner body and housing;

a cylinder plug including a key hole and an arced channel, the cylinder plug contained within the cylindrical shell and rotatable relative to the cylindrical shell when a proper key is inserted in the key hole and rotated; and

a barrel pin disposed through a wall of the cylindrical shell, such that a first portion of the barrel pin projects toward the interior of the cylindrical shell into the arced channel to rotatably retain the cylinder plug in the cylindrical shell, and a second portion of the barrel pin projects toward the exterior of the cylindrical shell into the slot of the inner body to control the longitudinal motion of the cylindrical shell;

wherein, in a locked position, the projection of the cylindrical shell is maintained in the first channel.

7. The locking device of claim 6 , wherein the first channel is configured to receive a wire to be locked, and wherein, in the locked position, the projection is extended into the first channel to secure the wire.

8. The locking device of claim 7 , wherein the at least one aperture in the wall of the housing includes a first aperture and a second aperture, and wherein the first channel extends from the first aperture to the second aperture.

9. The locking device of claim 8 , wherein, in the locked position, the projection provides a clamping force against a side of the wire.

10. The locking device of claim 6 , further comprising a plunger locking bolt movably mounted on the cylindrical shell, wherein the inner body includes a second slot that receives the plunger locking bolt to maintain the projection in the locked position.

11. The locking device of claim 6 , further comprising a barrel spring at least partially contained within the interior of the housing, the barrel spring configured to bias the projection of the cylindrical shell away from the first channel to an unlocked position.

12. A locking device comprising:

a housing including an outer wall defining an interior, the interior having a first longitudinal axis, the housing further including a channel extending at least partially through the interior of the housing; and

an inner body mounted inside the interior of the housing, the inner body including an interior and a first slot;

a cylindrical shell including a projection, the cylindrical shell being at least partially disposed in the interior of the inner body and moveable within the interior of the inner body along the first longitudinal axis relative to the inner body and housing;

a cylinder plug including a key hole and an arced channel, the cylinder plug contained within the cylindrical shell and rotatable relative to the cylindrical shell when a proper key is inserted in the key hole and rotated; and

a barrel pin disposed through a wall of the cylindrical shell, such that a first portion of the barrel pin projects toward the interior of the cylindrical shell into the arced channel to rotatably retain the cylinder plug in the cylindrical shell, and a second portion of the barrel pin projects toward the exterior of the cylindrical shell into the slot of the inner body to control the longitudinal motion of the cylindrical shell;

wherein, in an unlocked position, the projection is biased away from the channel, and, in a locked position, the projection is maintained in the channel.

13. The locking device of claim 12 , further comprising at least one aperture in the outer wall of the housing, the at least one aperture forming at least a portion of the first channel.

14. The locking device of claim 12 , wherein the first channel extends at an angle with respect to the direction of longitudinal movement of the cylindrical shell.

15. The locking device of claim 12 , wherein the locking device is configured to be locked onto at least one of a straight wire, a bent wire, a hook, and a loop.

16. The locking device of claim 12 , further comprising a barrel spring at least partially contained within the interior of the housing, the barrel spring configured to bias the projection of the cylindrical shell away from the first channel to an unlocked position.

17. The locking device of claim 12 , further comprising a plunger locking bolt movably mounted on the cylindrical shell, wherein the inner body includes a second slot that receives the plunger locking bolt to maintain the projection in the locked position.
