FOAMING AGENTS AND COMPOSITIONS CONTAINING FLUORINE SUBSTITUTED OLEFINS, AND METHODS OF FOAMING
Various uses of fluoroalkenes, including fluorobutenesin a variety of applications, including as blowing agents are disclosed.
1 . A polyurethane foam composition comprising a blowing agent composition comprising cyclopentane and from about 1% by weight to about 99% by weight of a fluoronated butene in accordance with Formula II below:
where each R is independently F or H
R′ is CF 3 .
2 . A polyurethane foam composition comprising a blowing agent composition consisting essentially of said fluorinated butene and said cyclopentane.
3 . The polyurethane foam composition of claim 1 further comprising a hydrofluorocarbon.
4 . The polyurethane foam composition of claim 9 wherein said hydrofluorocarbon is selected from the group consisting of difluoromethane (HFC-32); 1,1,1,2,1-pentafluoroethane (HFC-125); 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a); 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134); 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a); 1, I-difluoroethane (HFC-152a); 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane (HFC-227ea); 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa); 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane (HFC-365mfc).
5 . The polyurethane foam composition of claim 4 wherein said fluorinated butane comprises one or more of pentafluorobutene isomers; hexafluorobutene isomers; and heptafluorobutene isomers.
6 . The polyurethane foam composition of claim 5 , further comprising additive selected from the group consisting of Cl to C5 alcohols, C1 to C4 aldehydes, C1 to C4 ketones, C1 to C4 ethers, carbon dioxide, and C1 to C4 diethers.
7 . The polyurethane foam composition of claim 1 , further comprising a hydrochlorofluoroolefin
8 . A process of foaming a polyurethane foam comprising mixing polymer foam components with a foam blowing agent comprising
a blowing agent composition comprising cyclopentane and from about 1% by weight to about 99% by weight of a fluoronated butene in accordance with Formula II below:
where each R is independently F or H
R′ is CF 3 .
9 . The process of claim 8 , wherein said foam blowing agent further comprises a hydrofluorocarbon.
10 . The process of claim 9 wherein said hydrofluorocarbon is selected from the group consisting of consisting of difluoromethane (HFC-32); 1,1,1,2,1-pentafluoroethane (HFC-125); 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a); 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134); 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a); 1, I-difluoroethane (HFC-152a); 1,1,1,2,3,3,3-heptafluoropropane (HFC-227ea); 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluoropropane (HFC-245fa); and 1,1,1,3,3-pentafluorobutane (HFC-365mfc).
11 . The process of claim 9 wherein said hydrofluorocarbon comprises 1,1,1,2,2,3,4,5,5,5-decafluoropentane (HFC-431Omee).
12 . The process of claim 9 wherein said fluorinated butane is selected from the group consisting of pentafluorobutene isomers; hexafluorobutene isomers; and
heptafluorobutene isomers.
13 . The process of claim 9 , wherein said foam blowing agent further comprises a an additive selected from the group consisting of butanes, C1 to C5 alcohols, C1 to C4 aldehydes, C1 to C4 ketones, C1 to C4 ethers, carbon dioxide and C1 to C4 diethers.
14 . The process of claim 13 , wherein said foam blowing agent further comprises a hydrochlorofluoroolefin.
