Abstract

A respiratory treatment device includes a housing, an inlet configured to receive air into the housing, an outlet configured to permit air to exit the housing, and a flow path defined between the inlet and the outlet. A restrictor member positioned along the flow path that is configured to move between a closed position, where the flow of air along the flow path is restricted, and an open position, where the flow of air along the flow path is less restricted. A vane in communication with the flow path rotatable in response to the flow of air along the flow path is configured to move the restrictor member between the closed position and the open position. A protrusion extends in to the housing to limit movement of the restrictor member from the closed position to the open position.

Claims (42)

1. A respiratory treatment device comprising:

a housing;

an inlet configured to receive air into the housing;

an outlet configured to permit air to exit the housing;

a flow path defined between the inlet and the outlet;

a restrictor member positioned along the flow path configured to move between a closed position, where the flow of air along the flow path is restricted, and an open position, where the flow of air along the flow path is less restricted; and,

a vane in communication with the flow path rotatable in response to the flow of air along the flow path and configured to move the restrictor member between the closed position and the open position;

wherein a protrusion extends in to the housing to limit movement of the restrictor member from the closed position to the open position; and

wherein the protrusion is positioned to contact the vane when the vane rotates in response to the flow of air along the flow path.

2. The respiratory treatment device of claim 1 , wherein the restrictor member is operatively connected to the vane.

3. The respiratory treatment device of claim 1 , wherein a distance the protrusion extends into the housing is selectively adjustable by a user.

4. The respirator treatment device of claim 1 , wherein the protrusion comprises a screw rotatable by a user to selectively adjust a distance the protrusion extends into the housing.

5. The respiratory treatment device of claim 1 , wherein selective adjustment of a distance the protrusion extends into the housing adjusts an amplitude of oscillating pressure generated at the inlet.

6. The respiratory treatment device of claim 1 , wherein selective adjustment of a distance the protrusion extends into the housing adjusts a frequency of oscillating pressure generated at the inlet.

7. A respiratory treatment device comprising:

a housing;

an inlet configured to receive air into the housing;

an outlet configured to permit air to exit the housing;

a flow path defined between the inlet and the outlet;

a restrictor member positioned along the flow path configured to move between a closed position, where the flow of air along the flow path is restricted, and an open position, where the flow of air along the flow path is less restricted; and,

a vane in communication with the flow path rotatable in response to the flow of air along the flow path and configured to move the restrictor member between the closed position and the open position;

wherein a protrusion extends in to the housing to limit rotation of the vane; and,

wherein the protrusion is positioned to contact the vane when the vane rotates in response to the flow of air along the flow path.

8. The respiratory treatment device of claim 7 , wherein the restrictor member is operatively connected to the vane.

9. The respiratory treatment device of claim 7 , wherein a distance the protrusion extends into the housing is selectively adjustable by a user.

10. The respirator treatment device of claim 7 , wherein the protrusion comprises a screw rotatable by a user to selectively adjust a distance the protrusion extends into the housing.

11. The respiratory treatment device of claim 7 , wherein selective adjustment of a distance the protrusion extends into the housing adjusts an amplitude of oscillating pressure generated at the inlet.

12. The respiratory treatment device of claim 7 , wherein selective adjustment of a distance the protrusion extends into the housing adjusts a frequency of oscillating pressure generated at the inlet.

13. A respiratory treatment device comprising:

a housing;

an inlet configured to receive air into the housing;

an outlet configured to permit air to exit the housing;

a flow path defined between the inlet and the outlet;

a restrictor member positioned along the flow path in a first chamber and configured to move between a closed position, where the flow of air along the flow path is restricted, and an open position, where the flow of air along the flow path is less restricted;

a vane positioned in a second chamber rotatable in response to the flow of air along the flow path and configured to move the restrictor member between the closed position and the open position;

an orifice connecting the first chamber and the second chamber, the flow path passing through the orifice; and,

a bypass configured to permit a partial flow of air to enter the second chamber without flowing through the orifice.

14. The respiratory treatment device of claim 13 , wherein the orifice is formed in a nozzle.

15. The respiratory treatment device of claim 13 , wherein the partial flow of air through the bypass is selectively adjustable by a user.

16. The respiratory treatment device of claim 13 , wherein a distance a protrusion extends into the housing is selectively adjustable to block the partial flow of air through the bypass.

17. The respiratory treatment device of claim 16 , wherein the distance the protrusion extends into the housing is selectively adjustable by rotating the protrusion.

18. The respiratory treatment device of claim 16 , wherein selective adjustment of the distance the protrusion extends into the housing adjusts an amplitude of oscillating pressure generated at the inlet.
