Abstract

There is disclosed a heating device which is adapted to be used to warm medical solutions contained within medical devices such as an intravenous bag, intravenous tube or respiratory circuit. The heating device includes a metalized fabric having a first layer of clear thermoplastic material, the second layer of vaporized aluminum material, a third layer of thermoplastic material, and a fourth layer of lofted billow spunbond thermoplastic, non-woven material. The heating device is in the form of a generally tubular sleeve forming an IV line channel therein through which the medical device.

Claims (28)

1 . A heating device for warming medical solutions contained within a medical device, comprising:

a tubular sleeve having an central channel, said tubular sleeve being a fabric having a flexible metallic layer, a first electrically insulative layer coupled to said flexible metallic layer, an electrically resistive heating element coupled to said first electrically insulative layer oppositely disposed from said flexible metallic layer, a second electrically insulative layer covering said electrically resistive heating element oppositely disposed from said first electrically insulative layer.

2 . The heating device of claim 1 further comprising a third electrically insulative layer coupled to said flexible metallic layer and positioned oppositely disposed from said first electrically insulative layer.

3 . The heating device of claim 1 wherein said heating elements are electrically conductive ink heating elements.

4 . The heating device of claim 1 wherein said heating elements include a carbon veil layer.

5 . The heating blanket of claim 1 wherein said second electrically insulative layer is a spunbond material.

6 . The heating blanket of claim 1 wherein said electrically resistive heating element comprises a plurality of electrically resistive heating elements which are electrically coupled together through electrically conductive ink strips.

7 . The heating blanket of claim 1 further comprising an electrical control circuit electrically coupled to said electrically resistive heating element.

8 . The heating device of claim 1 further comprising a controller to control the flow of electric current to said electrically resistive heating element.

9 . The heating device of claim 8 wherein said controller controls the electric current to said electrically resistive heating element in accordance with the flow of a medical solution passing through said central channel of said heating device.

10 . A heating device for medical solutions, comprising:

a sleeve having an internal channel for receiving a structure carrying a medical solution, said sleeve being made of a metalized fabric having an outwardly facing first thermoplastic layer, a flexible metalized layer coving an inboard surface of said first thermoplastic layer, a second thermoplastic layer covering an inboard surface of said flexible metalized layer, an electrically resistive heating element veil covering an inboard surface of said second thermoplastic layer; and a third thermoplastic layer covering an inboard surface of said electrically resistive heating element veil.

11 . The heating device of claim 10 wherein said electrically resistive heating element veil includes a conductive ink electrically resistive heating element coupled to a carbon veil material.

12 . The heating device of claim 11 further comprising a first electrically insulative heat diffusing fabric covering said conductive ink electrically resistive heating element.

13 . The heating blanket of claim 12 wherein said first electrically insulative heat diffusing fabric is a spunbond material.

14 . The heating blanket of claim 13 wherein said third thermoplastic layer is a spunbond material.

15 . The heating blanket of claim 11 wherein said conductive ink electrically resistive heating element comprises a plurality of electrically resistive heating elements which are electrically coupled together through electrically conductive ink strips.

16 . The heating blanket of claim 10 further comprising an electrical control circuit electrically coupled to said electrically resistive heating element veil.

17 . A heating device for warming medical solutions contained within a medical device, comprising:

a fabric having a flexible metallic layer, a first electrically insulative layer coupled to said flexible metallic layer, an electrically resistive heating element coupled to said first electrically insulative layer positioned oppositely disposed from said flexible metallic layer, a second electrically insulative layer coupled to said electrically resistive heating element and being positioned oppositely disposed from said first electrically insulative layer.

18 . The heating device of claim 17 further comprising a third electrically insulative layer coupled to said flexible metallic layer and positioned oppositely disposed from said first electrically insulative layer.

19 . The heating device of claim 17 wherein said heating elements are electrically conductive ink heating elements.

20 . The heating device of claim 17 wherein said heating elements include a carbon veil layer.

21 . The heating blanket of claim 17 wherein said second electrically insulative layer is a spunbond material.

22 . The heating blanket of claim 17 wherein said electrically resistive heating element comprises a plurality of electrically resistive heating elements which are electrically coupled together through electrically conductive ink strips.

23 . The heating blanket of claim 17 further comprising an electrical control circuit electrically coupled to said electrically resistive heating element.

24 . The heating device of claim 17 further comprising a controller to control the flow of electric current to said electrically resistive heating element.

25 . The heating device of claim 24 wherein said controller controls the electric current to said electrically resistive heating element in accordance with the flow of a medical solution passing through said central channel of said heating device.
