Abstract

A cognitive information processing system environment which includes a plurality of data sources; a cognitive inference and learning system coupled to receive a data from the plurality of data sources, the cognitive inference and learning system processing the data from the plurality of data sources to provide cognitively processed insights, the cognitive inference and learning system further comprising performing a learning operation to iteratively improve the cognitively processed insights over time; and, a destination, the destination receiving the cognitively processed insights.

Claims (68)

1. A method for cognitive information processing comprising:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to provide cognitively processed insights via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive inference and learning system executing on a hardware processor of an information processing system, the cognitive inference and learning system and the information processing system providing a cognitive computing function, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising

a development environment, the development environment being implemented to create custom extensions to the cognitive inference and learning system;

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a data set engine, a graph engine and an insight/learning engine;

a plurality of sourcing agents, the plurality of sourcing agents sourcing multi-site, multi-structured data streams; and,

a plurality of destination agents, the plurality of destination agents publishing the cognitively processed insights;

performing a learning operation, via the cognitive inference and learning system, to iteratively improve the cognitively processed insights over time; and,

providing the cognitively processed insights to a destination, the destination comprising a cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive insights.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the development environment is further implemented for development of a custom cognitive application; and,

the destination comprises the custom cognitive application.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of a custom agent, the custom agent being purpose-built via the development environment.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein:

the custom agent comprises at least one of a custom sourcing agent, a custom bridging agent, and a custom destination agent.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of at least one of an analytics application and an analytics extension.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the cognitive platform further comprises a management console; and,

the management console establishes the development environment.

7. A system comprising:

a processor;

a data bus coupled to the processor; and

a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium being coupled to the data bus, the computer program code interacting with a plurality of computer operations and comprising instructions executable by the processor and configured for:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to provide cognitively processed insights via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive inference and learning system executing on a hardware processor of an information processing system, the cognitive inference and learning system and the information processing system providing a cognitive computing function, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising

a development environment, the development environment being implemented to create custom extensions to the cognitive inference and learning system;

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a data set engine, a graph engine and an insight/learning engine;

a plurality of sourcing agents, the plurality of sourcing agents sourcing multi-site, multi-structured data streams; and,

a plurality of destination agents, the plurality of destination agents publishing the cognitively processed insights;

performing a learning operation, via the cognitive inference and learning system, to iteratively improve the cognitively processed insights over time; and,

providing the cognitively processed insights to a destination, the destination comprising a cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive insights.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the development environment is further implemented for development of a custom cognitive application; and,

the destination comprises the custom cognitive application.

9. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of a custom agent, the custom agent being purpose-built via the development environment.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein:

the custom agent comprises at least one of a custom sourcing agent, a custom bridging agent, and a custom destination agent.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of at least one of an analytics application and an analytics extension.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein:

the cognitive platform further comprises a management console; and,

the management console establishes the development environment.

13. A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium embodying computer program code, the computer program code comprising computer executable instructions configured for:

receiving data from a plurality of data sources;

processing the data from the plurality of data sources to provide cognitively processed insights via a cognitive inference and learning system, the cognitive inference and learning system executing on a hardware processor of an information processing system, the cognitive inference and learning system and the information processing system providing a cognitive computing function, the cognitive inference and learning system comprising a cognitive platform, the cognitive platform comprising

a development environment, the development environment being implemented to create custom extensions to the cognitive inference and learning system;

a cognitive engine, the cognitive engine comprising a data set engine, a graph engine and an insight/learning engine;

a plurality of sourcing agents, the plurality of sourcing agents sourcing multi-site, multi-structured data streams; and,

a plurality of destination agents, the plurality of destination agents publishing the cognitively processed insights;

performing a learning operation, via the cognitive inference and learning system, to iteratively improve the cognitively processed insights over time; and,

providing the cognitively processed insights to a destination, the destination comprising a cognitive application, the cognitive application enabling a user to interact with the cognitive insights.

14. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the development environment is further implemented for development of a custom cognitive application; and,

the destination comprises the custom cognitive application.

15. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of a custom agent, the custom agent being purpose-built via the development environment.

16. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein:

the custom agent comprises at least one of a custom sourcing agent, a custom bridging agent, and a custom destination agent.

17. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the development environment is implemented for development of at least one of an analytics application and an analytics extension.

18. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein:

the cognitive platform further comprises a management console; and,

the management console establishes the development environment.

19. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are deployable to a client system from a server system at a remote location.

20. The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 13 , wherein the computer executable instructions are provided by a service provider to a user on an on-demand basis.
