Abstract

A tissue dissecting device, including an inflatable bladder configured to be inserted into a body via an introducer tube in a compact deflated state, and to be inflated to a substantially planar form in a manner which dissects tissue. A method for dissecting tissue, including inserting an inflatable bladder, in a deflated state, via an introducer tube, into a space in a body, and inflating the bladder to a substantially planar form, thereby dissecting tissue. A method for dissecting tissue, including inserting an introducer tube via an incision into a body, inserting an inflatable bladder, in a deflated state, via the introducer tube, into a space in the body, pulling the introducer tube back at least a length of the deflated bladder, inflating the bladder, via a filling tube, to a substantially planar form, thereby dissecting tissue, disconnecting the filling tube from the bladder, retracting the filling tube and the introducer tube from the body. Related apparatus and methods are also described.

Claims (17)

1. A tissue-dissecting device, comprising:

a. an inflatable bladder for inter-tissue or inter-organ spacing, the bladder comprising first and second walls forming opposite sides of the bladder and defining, with the bladder inflated, an inflation thickness, the walls also defining, in combination, a hole through the bladder such that the bladder is sealed about a perimeter of the hole in a manner that limits the inflation thickness of the bladder,

the bladder further comprising an inflation port; and

b. an introducer tube for guiding the bladder in a deflated state to a target location in a body and comprising an inflation lumen, the introducer tube detachably connected or connectable to the bladder such that in a connected state the inflation lumen is in fluid communication with the inflation port for inflating the bladder.

2. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 wherein the bladder is biodegradable and seamless.

3. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein, when the bladder is inflated, a perimeter of the bladder is at least partly curved.

4. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein, when the bladder is inflated, a perimeter of the bladder is oval, elliptical or circular.

5. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein the bladder, when inflated, defines a toroid shape.

6. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein the bladder walls define, in combination, multiple holes through the bladder.

7. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 6 , wherein a combined presence of the multiple holes limits the inflation thickness of the bladder.

8. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 6 , wherein the holes are arranged in offset rows.

9. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein the hole perimeter is at least partially curved.

10. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 9 , wherein the hole perimeter is round.

11. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein the hole is elongated in a direction parallel to the walls.

12. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 11 , wherein the walls define, in combination, multiple holes elongated in a direction parallel to the walls and defining therebetween an inflatable column.

13. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , wherein the hole is elongated in a direction parallel to the introducer tube.

14. The tissue-dissecting device of claim 1 , further comprising an external restrictor configured to restrict lateral displacement of the inflatable bladder.
