Abstract

The present disclosure relates to biologically and behaviorally based methods of measuring audience response to a short stimulus.

Claims (62)

1. A system comprising:

a memory including machine executable instructions; and

at least one processor to execute the instructions to:

control a stimulus presentation device to present a first stimulus based on activation of a sensor;

obtain first biometric data from a first subject exposed to the first stimulus for a first period of the first stimulus;

obtain second biometric data from a second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the first period of the first stimulus;

at least one of event-stamp the first biometric data and the second biometric data with an event indicator for the first period of the first stimulus or time-stamp the first biometric data and the second biometric data with a time indicator for the first period of the first stimulus;

synchronize the first biometric data and the second biometric data based on one or more of the event indicator or the time indicator;

generate a first synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the first biometric data and the second biometric data;

synchronize third biometric data and fourth biometric data, the third biometric data associated with the first subject exposed to the first stimulus for a second period of the first stimulus and the fourth biometric data associated with the second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the second period;

generate a second synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the third biometric data and the fourth biometric data;

detect a synchrony response pattern between the first synchrony score and the second synchrony score;

generate a subject response score based on an average of (1) a value of a first self- report response associated with the first subject in response to the exposure of the first subject to the first stimulus and (2) a value of a second self-report response associated with the second subject in response to the exposure of the second subject the first stimulus;

integrate the synchrony response pattern and the subject response score into a physical and nonphysical integrated score; and

select at least one of (1) at least a portion of the first stimulus or (2) a second stimulus to be presented based on the integrated score.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the synchrony response pattern is a first synchrony response pattern, and the at least one processor is to compare the first synchrony response pattern to a second synchrony response pattern associated with a third stimulus, the third stimulus sharing an attribute with the first stimulus.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event indicator includes an interaction of one or more of the first subject or the second subject with the first stimulus.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one processor is to:

determine a first intensity score for the first subject based on the first biometric data and a second intensity score for the second subject based on the second biometric data; and

combine the first intensity score, the second intensity score, and the first synchrony score to generate an engagement score for the first period of the first stimulus.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one processor is to selectively apply a first weight to the first synchrony score or a second weight to one or more of the first intensity score or the second intensity score to generate the engagement score.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the at least one processor is to selectively apply the first weight to the second synchrony score, the engagement score further based on the second synchrony score, and the engagement score indicating a level of engagement of the first subject and the second subject over the first period and the second period.

7. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one processor is to determine an effectiveness of the first stimulus based on the engagement score.

8. A tangible machine readable storage device or storage disc comprising instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to at least:

control a stimulus presentation device to present a first stimulus based on activation of a sensor;

obtain first biometric data from a first subject exposed to the first stimulus for a first period of the first stimulus;

obtain second biometric data from a second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the first period of the first stimulus;

at least one of event-stamp the first biometric data and the second biometric data with an event indicator for the first period of the first stimulus or time-stamp the first biometric data and the second biometric data with a time indicator for the first period of the first stimulus;

synchronize first biometric data and second biometric data based on one or more of the event indicator or the time indicator;

generate a first synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the first biometric data and the second biometric data;

synchronize third biometric data and fourth biometric data, the third biometric data associated with the first subject exposed to the first stimulus for a second period of the first stimulus and the fourth biometric data associated with the second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the second period;

generate a second synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the third biometric data and the fourth biometric data;

detect a synchrony response pattern between the first synchrony score and the second synchrony score;

generate a subject response score based on an average of (1) a value of a first self-report response associated with the first subject in response to the exposure of the first subject to the first stimulus and (2) a value of a second self-report response associated with the second subject in response to the exposure of the second subject the first stimulus;

integrate the synchrony response pattern and the subject response score into a physical and nonphysical integrated score; and

select at least one of (1) at least a portion of the first stimulus or (2) a second stimulus to be presented based on the integrated score.

The storage device or storage disc of claim 8 , wherein the synchrony response pattern is a first synchrony response pattern, and the instructions cause the at least one processor to compare the first synchrony response pattern to a second synchrony response pattern associated with a third stimulus, the third stimulus sharing an attribute with the first stimulus.

10. The storage device or storage disc of claim 8 , wherein the event indicator includes an interaction of one or more of the first subject or the second subject with the first stimulus.

11. The storage device or storage disc of claim 8 , wherein the instructions cause the at least one processor to:

determine a first intensity score for the first subject based on the first biometric data and a second intensity score for the second subject based on the second biometric data; and

combine the first intensity score, the second intensity score, and the first synchrony score to generate an engagement score for the first period of the first stimulus.

The storage device or storage disc of claim 11 , wherein the instructions cause the at least one processor to selectively apply a first weight to the first synchrony score or a second weight to one or more of the first intensity score or the second intensity score to generate the engagement score.

The storage device or storage disc of claim 12 , wherein the instructions cause the at least one processor to selectively apply the first weight to the second synchrony score, the engagement score further based on the second synchrony score, and the engagement score indicating a level of engagement of the first subject and the second subject over the first period and the second period.

14. The storage device or storage disc of claim 11 , wherein the instructions cause the at least one processor to determine an effectiveness of the first stimulus based on the engagement score.

15. A system comprising:

first means for measuring first biometric data from a first subject exposed to a first stimulus for a first period of the first stimulus and second biometric data from the first subject exposed to the first stimulus for a second period of the first stimulus;

second means for measuring third biometric data from a second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the first period and fourth biometric data from the second subject exposed to the first stimulus for the second period; and

means for selecting media, the means for selecting to:

control a stimulus presentation device to present the first stimulus based on activation of one or more of the first means for measuring or the second means for measuring;

at least one of event-stamp the first biometric data and the third biometric data with an event indicator for the first period of the first stimulus or time-stamp the first biometric data and the third biometric data with a time indicator for the first period of the first stimulus;

synchronize the first biometric data and the third biometric data based on one or more of the event indicator or the time indicator;

generate a first synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the first biometric data and the third biometric data;

synchronize the second biometric data and the fourth biometric data;

generate a second synchrony score for the first stimulus based on the synchronization of the second biometric data and the fourth biometric data;

detect a synchrony response pattern between the first synchrony score and the second synchrony score;

generate a subject response score based on an average of (1) a value of a first self- report response associated with the first subject in response to the exposure of the first subject to the first stimulus and (2) a value of a second self-report response associated with the second subject in response to the exposure of the second subject the first stimulus;

integrate the synchrony response pattern and the subject response score into a physical and nonphysical integrated score; and

select at least one of (1) at least a portion of the first stimulus or (2) a second stimulus to be presented based on the integrated score.

The system of claim 15 , wherein the synchrony response pattern is a first synchrony response pattern, and the means for selecting is to compare the first synchrony response pattern to a second synchrony response pattern associated with a third stimulus, the third stimulus sharing an attribute with the first stimulus.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the means for selecting is to:

determine a first intensity score for the first subject based on the first biometric data and a second intensity score for the second subject based on the second biometric data; and

combine the first intensity score, the second intensity score, and the first synchrony score to generate an engagement score for the first period of the first stimulus.
