Abstract

A smoke inhalation device may include a housing, a first cartridge comprising a first release device configured to release a first substance, a second cartridge comprising a second release device configured to release a second substance, and a controller configured to control the operation of the first release device and the second release device. The first release device and the second release device may be configured to be operated independently from one another, such that a combined vapor composition including the first substance and the second substance is configured to be varied.

Claims (32)

1. A smoke inhalation device comprising:

a housing;

a first cartridge comprising a first release device configured to release a first substance;

a second cartridge comprising a second release device configured to release a second substance; and

a controller configured to control the operation of the first release device and the second release device,

wherein the first release device and the second release device are configured to be operated independently from one another, such that a combined vapor composition including the first substance and the second substance is configured to be varied.

2. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first release device includes a first heating element configured to energize particles of the first substance, and the second release device includes a second heating element configured to energize particles of the second substance.

3. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 2 , wherein the smoke inhalation device is configured such that in use, energized particles of the first substance and the second substance are carried by a same airstream flowing between an inlet hole and an outlet hole of the smoke inhalation device.

4. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first release device is configured to release the first substance at a release rate, and the controller is configured to modify the release rate of the first substance.

5. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first cartridge is located completely within the housing.

6. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 5 , further comprising a sensor, wherein the controller is further configured to: receive data from the sensor; determine an amount of the first substance released by the first cartridge based on the data; and estimate a remaining amount of the first substance in the first cartridge based on the determined amount of the first substance.

7. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first cartridge and the second cartridge are arranged such that an airstream passes over both the first cartridge and the second cartridge.

8. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first cartridge and the second cartridge are arranged such that an airstream passes through both the first cartridge and the second cartridge.

9. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the first substance and the second substance are different from one another.

10. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , wherein the controller further comprises a memory including a program, and whereby the program is configured to control the first release device and the second release device.

11. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 10 , further comprising a communication device configured to allow a user to change and monitor settings of the inhalation device.

12. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 11 , wherein the communication device includes at least one of: a switch, a keypad, a display, an input/output port and a wireless transceiver.

13. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 12 , wherein the communication device comprises an input/output port and a wireless transceiver, whereby the controller and the wireless transceiver are configured to establish a communications link between the controller and an external computer.

14. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a first temperature sensor located on the first cartridge and a second temperature sensor located on the second cartridge, the first and second temperature sensors being connected to the controller; and

a timer,

wherein the controller is configured to estimate an amount of substance released from the first cartridge and the second cartridge based on information from the temperature sensor and the timer.

15. The smoke inhalation device according to claim 1 , further comprising a current sensor or voltage sensor located on the power feed to the first release device, wherein the current sensor is configured to determine an amount of current used by the first release device, and the controller is configured to estimate an amount of substance released by the first cartridge based on information from the current sensor.

16. An electronic cigarette comprising:

a mouthpiece portion including at least two cartridges, each cartridge arranged to contain a separate substance, and each cartridge being connected to a separate heater assembly, and

a control switch for selectively controlling the heating of liquid from one or more of the reservoirs by the heater assembly, such that, when power is supplied to the heater assembly together with the selected liquid, an aerosol is generated for inhalation by a user.

17. The electronic cigarette according to claim 16 , wherein at least one of the reservoirs comprises a drug or a scent.

18. The electronic cigarette according to claim 16 , further comprising an elongated body into which said control switch is disposed, said mouthpiece portion further comprising at least one air intake for a user to draw air inside the elongated body to mix with said aerosol and to inhale the mixed aerosol composition through the mouthpiece portion.

19. A method of energizing particles of a first substance and a second substance for a smoke inhalation device having a first cartridge comprising a first release device configured to release a first substance and a second cartridge comprising a second release device configured to release a second substance, the method comprising:

energizing particles of the first substance to release the particles into a same airstream flowing between an inlet hole and an outlet hole of the housing; and

energizing particles of the second substance to release the particles into the same airstream.

20. The method according to claim 19 , further comprising determining an amount of the first substance released by the first cartridge and estimating a remaining amount of the first substance in the first cartridge based on the determined amount of the first substance.
