Abstract

An image decoding apparatus includes: an MPM candidate list deriving unit that derives an MPM candidate list by adding a plurality of different intra prediction modes to the MPM candidate list based on a shape of a target block, and an MPM parameter decoding unit decoding parameters for deriving the intra-prediction modes from the MPM candidate list.

Claims (18)

1. An image decoding apparatus configured to use a binary tree division in addition to a quad tree division when dividing a picture and decode the picture, the image decoding apparatus comprising:

an intra prediction parameter decoding control unit configured to change a first association between a plurality of prediction directions and a plurality of mode indices in an intra prediction mode into a second association based on a shape of a block; and

a prediction image generation unit configured to generate a prediction image by referring to the plurality of mode indices and the second association,

wherein the intra prediction parameter decoding control unit changes a number of first portions of the plurality of prediction directions based on the shape of the block to generate a plurality of changed prediction directions for determining the second association based on the plurality of changed prediction directions, wherein the plurality of prediction directions directed toward a first direction region are the first portions of the plurality of prediction directions.

2. An image coding apparatus configured to use a binary tree division in addition to a quad tree division when dividing a picture and decode the picture, the image coding apparatus comprising:

an intra prediction parameter decoding control unit configured to change a first association between a plurality of prediction directions and a plurality of mode indices in an intra prediction mode into a second association based on a shape of a block; and

a prediction image generation unit configured to generate a prediction image by referring the plurality of mode indices and the second association,

wherein the intra prediction parameter decoding control unit changes a number of first portions of the plurality of prediction directions based on the shape of the block to generate a plurality of changed prediction directions for determining the second association based on the plurality of changed prediction directions, wherein the plurality of prediction directions directed toward a first direction region are the first portions of the plurality of prediction directions.

3. The image decoding apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first direction region is arranged between a lower left direction and a upper left direction of the block when a width of the block is greater than a height of the block.

4. The image decoding apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the lower left direction is a first direction of 45 degrees from the top-right to the bottom-left and the upper left direction is a second direction of 45 degrees from the bottom-right to the top-left.

5. The image decoding apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first direction region is arranged between a upper right direction and a upper left direction of the block when a width of the block is less than a height of the block.

6. The image decoding apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the upper right direction is a first direction of 45 degrees from the bottom-left to the top-right and the upper left direction is a second direction of 45 degrees from the bottom-right to the top-left.

The image decoding apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the intra prediction parameter decoding control unit changes a number of second portions of the plurality of prediction directions to generate the plurality of changed prediction directions based on the shape of the block and determines the second association based on the plurality of changed prediction directions, wherein the plurality of prediction directions directed toward a second direction region are the second portions of the plurality of prediction directions.

8. The image decoding apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the second direction region is arranged in a right side of a upper left direction of the block when a width of the block is greater than a height of the block.

9. The image decoding apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the second direction region is arranged below a upper left direction of the block when a width of the block is less than a height of the block.

10. The image decoding apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the number of the second portions of the plurality of prediction directions is decreased when the number of the first portions of the plurality of prediction directions is increased based on the shape of the block.

11. The image decoding apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the number of the second portions of the plurality of prediction directions is increased when the number of the first portions of the plurality of prediction directions is decreased based on the shape of the block.

12. The image decoding apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a number of the plurality of prediction directions is equal to a number of the plurality of changed prediction directions.
