Abstract

A refrigerator is configured to enable a user to open doors of the refrigerator easily. The refrigerator performs a method for controlling the doors to prevent from opening due to a malfunction.

Claims (24)

1. A refrigerator comprising:

a cabinet including a storage chamber;

a left door and a right door that are configured to open and close at least a portion of the storage chamber;

a sensor configured to sense whether a user is within a sensing distance, the sensor being configured to distinguish a sensing-on operation of the user and a sensing-off operation of the user from each other based on whether the user is within the sensing distance;

a door opening device configured to automatically open at least one of the left door or the right door; and

a controller configured to determine a driving condition of the door opening device based on a sensing-on duration of the sensing-on operation and to control driving of the door opening device in one of a plurality of driving modes based on the driving condition,

wherein the controller is configured to:

based on the sensing-on duration being less than a first preset time, determine that the driving condition is not satisfied,

based on a sensing-off duration being less than a second preset time, drive the door opening device in a first driving mode among the plurality of driving modes to open one of the left door or the right door, the sensing-off duration being a duration of time of the sensing-off operation that occurs after an elapse of the first preset time, and

based on the sensing-off duration being greater than the second preset time and less than a third preset time, drive the door opening device in a second driving mode among the plurality of driving modes to open another of the left door or the right door.

2. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the door opening device comprises:

a single motor; and

left and right racks configured to move forward relative to the cabinet by driving of the single motor to respectively push the left and right doors.

3. The refrigerator of claim 1 , further comprising a notification device configured to notify the user that the door opening device is scheduled to be driven.

4. The refrigerator of claim 3 , wherein the controller is configured to control driving of the notification device to generate different beeps according to the plurality of driving modes of the door opening device.

5. The refrigerator of claim 4 , wherein the notification device comprises a buzzer configured to generate a beep sound, and

wherein the controller is configured to generate different numbers of beep sounds for different driving modes among the plurality of driving modes.

6. The refrigerator of claim 3 , further comprising a door switch configured to sense opening and closing of the left and right doors,

wherein the controller is configured to determine whether the driving condition of the door opening device is satisfied based on the door switch sensing that the left and right doors are closed.

7. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the sensor is configured to sense the sensing-on operation of the user based on the user being located within the sensing distance, and

wherein the controller is configured to determine the sensing-off duration based on the user being located outside of the sensing distance after the sensing-on duration.

8. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine that the driving condition is satisfied based on the sensing-off duration being less than a sum of the first preset time and the second preset time, the sensing-off duration being a duration of time of the sensing-off operation that occurs after the sensing-on duration.

9. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to determine that the driving condition is not satisfied based on the sensor detecting no sensing-off operation within the third preset time after the sensing-on duration.

10. The refrigerator of claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to restrict driving of the door opening device based on the sensing-off duration spent being greater than a sum of the second preset time and the third preset time, the sensing-off duration being a duration of time of the sensing-off operation that occurs after the sensing-on duration.
