Abstract

A compound of general formula (I) or (II), wherein R n and R m independently represent a C 3 -C 27 aliphatic group, R 1 to R 4 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent hydrogen or a C 1 -C 8 alkyl group, X 1 and X 2 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent a linear or branched divalent hydrocarbon radical with 1 to 24 carbon atoms which can be optionally substituted and/or interrupted by one or more heteroatoms or heteroatom containing groups, and R 5 and R 6 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent a group selected from —O − , -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 — and -Alk-CO 2 — wherein Alk represents an alkylene group.

Claims (24)

1. A compound of general formula (II)

wherein R n and R m are independently selected from the group consisting of C 3 -C 27 alkyl and C 3 -C 27 alkenyl groups, X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 — and R 1 to R 4 are methyl, and

R 5 and R 6 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent a group selected from —O − , -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 — and -Alk-CO 2 — wherein Alk represents a methylene group —CH 2 —.

2. The compound in accordance with claim 1 wherein the compound is a compound of general formula (II) in which X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 —, R 1 to R 4 are methyl and R 5 and R 6 are —CH 2 —CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 — or —CH 2 —CO 2 —.

3. The compound in accordance with claim 1 wherein the compound is a compound of general formula (II) in which X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 —, R 1 to R 4 are methyl and R 5 and R 6 are —O − .

4. A process for the preparation of a compound according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is a compound of formula (II), the process comprising reacting a compound of formula (I) with a compound of formula (V) in accordance with the following general scheme

wherein R n and R m are independently selected from the group consisting of C 3 -C 27 alkyl and C 3 -C 27 alkenyl groups, X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 — and R 1 to R 4 are methyl, and

wherein Y—R 0 represents either hydrogen peroxide or a compound in which Y is a leaving group and R 0 is -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 M or -Alk-CO 2 M, wherein Alk represents a methylene group —CH 2 — and M is an alkaline metal or hydrogen.

5. The process of claim 4 wherein Y—R 0 represents a compound in which Y is a leaving group and R 0 is -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 M or -Alk-CO 2 M.

6. The process of claim 5 wherein M is an alkaline metal.

7. The process of claim 5 wherein R 0 is —CH 2 —CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 Na or —CH 2 —CO 2 Na.

8. The process of claim 4 wherein the compound of formula (I) is reacted with hydrogen peroxide in a reaction zone at a temperature ranging from 15 to 400° C. and optionally in the presence of an added solvent.

9. The process of claim 4 , additionally comprising preparing the compound of formula (I) by a process comprising reacting an internal ketone K1 of formula (III) with a twin-tail amine of formula (IV) under reductive amination conditions in accordance with the following general reaction scheme.

10. A method, comprising using a compound according to claim 1 , wherein the compound is a compound of formula (II), for enhanced oil recovery application.

11. An adjuvant composition for modifying the spray properties of an aqueous pesticide composition comprising:

a compound of general formula (II)

wherein R n and R m are independently selected from the group consisting of C 3 -C 27 alkyl and C 3 -C 27 alkenyl groups, X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 — and R 1 to R 4 are methyl, and

R 5 and R 6 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent a group selected from —O − , -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 — and -Alk-CO 2 —, wherein Alk represents a methylene group —CH 2 —, in an amount that is effective, when the adjuvant composition is diluted in the aqueous pesticide composition and the aqueous pesticide composition is spray applied, to reduce spray drift of the spray applied aqueous pesticide composition compared to an analogous spray applied pesticide composition that lacks the compound of general formula (II).

12. A method for controlling spray drift of an aqueous pesticide composition, comprising:

incorporating in the aqueous pesticide composition a compound of general formula (II)

wherein R n and R m are independently selected from the group consisting of C 3 -C 27 alkyl and C 3 -C 27 alkenyl groups, X 1 and X 2 are —(CH 2 ) 3 — and R 1 to R 4 are methyl, and

R 5 and R 6 , which may be the same or different at each occurrence, represent a group selected from —O − , -Alk-CH(OH)—CH 2 —SO 3 — and -Alk-CO 2 —, wherein Alk represents a methylene group —CH 2 —, in an amount that is effective, when the end use pesticide composition is spray applied, to reduce spray drift of the spray applied pesticide composition compared to an analogous spray applied pesticide composition that lacks the compound of general formula (II), and spray applying the aqueous pesticide composition to a target pest or to an environment of the target pest.

13. A method, comprising using the compound of formula (II) prepared by the process according to claim 4 for an enhanced oil recovery application.

14. The compound in accordance with claim 1 , wherein R n and R m are independently C 3 -C 27 alkyl groups.
