Abstract

A subcutaneously implantable device includes a housing, a clip attached to a top side of the housing, a first prong with a proximal end attached to the housing and a distal end extending away from the housing, and a first electrode on the first prong. The clip is configured to anchor the device to a muscle, a bone, and/or a tissue. The first prong is configured to contact a heart. The first electrode is configured to contact the heart. Sensing circuitry in the housing that is configured to sense an electrical signal from the heart, and therapeutic circuitry in the housing is in electrical communication with the first electrode and is configured to deliver electrical stimulation to the heart through the first electrode.

Claims (44)

1. A subcutaneously implantable device comprising:

a housing;

a clip attached to a top side of the housing that is configured to anchor the device to a muscle, a bone, and/or a first tissue;

a drug pump and a drug reservoir in the housing, wherein the drug pump is fluidly connected to the drug reservoir with a first fluid connector;

a first prong with a lumen extending through the first prong and having a proximal end attached to the housing and the drug pump, and a distal end extending away from the housing that is configured to contact an organ, a nerve, and/or a second tissue, wherein the first prong is fluidly connected to the drug pump with a second fluid connector;

circuitry in the housing in electrical communication with the drug pump that is configured to deliver a signal to the drug pump to provide a targeted or systemic therapeutic drug to the organ, the nerve, and/or the second tissue through the lumen running through the first prong; and

a battery in the housing that is configured to power the circuitry and the drug pump.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the clip is configured to attach the device to a xiphoid process and/or a sternum of a patient.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the clip further comprises:

a top portion;

a bottom portion; and

a spring portion extending between and connecting the top portion to the bottom portion, wherein the spring portion is curved and is configured to act as a spring for the clip to push the top portion of the clip onto the bone, the muscle, and/or the first tissue to which it is anchored.

4. The device of claim 1 , and further comprising:

an electrode positioned on the housing, the clip, and/or the first prong that is in electrical communication with the circuitry and is configured to sense an electrical signal from the organ, the nerve, the first tissue and/or the second tissue and/or is configured to deliver electrical stimulation to the organ, the nerve, the first tissue and/or the second tissue.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the therapeutic drug in the drug reservoir is configured to be pumped into the lumen of the first prong using the drug pump.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first prong further comprises:

a base portion on the proximal end of the prong;

a spring portion extending from the base portion;

an arm portion extending from the spring portion; and

a contact portion extending from the arm portion and terminating at the distal end of the prong.

7. The device of claim 6 , wherein the housing further comprises:

a first port on a back side of the housing, wherein the base portion of the prong is positioned in the first port.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein a second port in the housing fluidly connects to the drug reservoir and is configured to allow the drug reservoir to be replenished.

9. The device of claim 8 , and further comprising:

a second prong with a lumen extending through the second prong and having a proximal end attached to the second port in the housing and the drug reservoir, and a distal end extending away from the housing.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the second prong is fluidly connected to the drug reservoir with a third fluid connector.

11. The device of claim 9 , wherein the second prong is configured to receive replenishment of the drug reservoir through an opening at a distal end of the second prong.

12. A subcutaneously implantable device comprising:

a housing;

a clip attached to a top side of the housing that is configured to anchor the device to a muscle, a bone, and/or a first tissue;

a drug pump and a drug reservoir in the housing, wherein the drug pump is fluidly connected to the drug reservoir with a first fluid connector;

a first prong with a lumen extending through the first prong and having a proximal end attached to the housing and the drug pump, and a distal end extending away from the housing that is configured to contact an organ, a nerve, and/or a second tissue, wherein the first prong is fluidly connected to the drug pump with a second fluid connector;

a second prong with a lumen extending through the second prong and having a proximal end attached to the housing and the drug reservoir, and a distal end extending away from the housing, wherein the second prong is fluidly connected to the drug reservoir with a third fluid connector;

circuitry in the housing in electrical communication with the drug pump that is configured to deliver a signal to the drug pump to provide a targeted or systemic therapeutic drug to the organ, the nerve, and/or the second tissue through the lumen running through the first prong; and

a battery in the housing that is configured to power the circuitry and the drug pump.

13. The device of claim 12 , wherein the clip is configured to attach the device to a xiphoid process and/or a sternum of a patient.

14. The device of claim 12 , wherein the clip further comprises:

a top portion;

a bottom portion; and

a spring portion extending between and connecting the top portion to the bottom portion, wherein the spring portion is curved and is configured to act as a spring for the clip to push the top portion of the clip onto the bone, the muscle, and/or the first tissue to which it is anchored.

15. The device of claim 12 , further comprising:

an electrode positioned on the housing, the clip, and/or the first prong that is in electrical communication with the circuitry and is configured to sense an electrical signal from the organ, the nerve, the first tissue and/or the second tissue and/or is configured to deliver electrical stimulation to the organ, the nerve, the first tissue and/or the second tissue.

16. The device of claim 12 , wherein the drug in the drug reservoir is configured to be pumped through into the lumen of the first prong using the drug pump.

17. The device of claim 12 , wherein the second prong is configured to receive replenishment of the drug reservoir through an opening at a distal end of the second prong.
