Abstract

Methods and systems for processing subjective queries are described. A query is received from a user. The method involves determining whether the query is subjective. In response to determining that the query is subjective, a plurality of people qualified to answer the query are identified. Moreover, a subset of the plurality of people who are available to answer the query are identified, and the query is transmitted to the subset of people available to answer the query. The received responses to the transmitted query from each of the people in the subset are then generated for display.

Claims (70)

1. A method for processing subjective queries, the method comprising:

receiving, via control circuitry, a query from a user;

determining, via the control circuitry, whether the query is subjective;

in response to determining that the query is subjective:

identifying, via the control circuitry, a plurality of people qualified to answer the query including:

identifying, via the control circuitry, a first geographic location indicated in the query;

retrieving, via the control circuitry, geographic location information of each of the plurality of people associated with the user;

determining, via the control circuitry, whether a respective geographic location of each of plurality of people matches the first geographic location; and

identifying the plurality of people whose geographic location information matches the first geographic location from the query as qualified to answer the query;

identifying, via the control circuitry, a subset of the plurality of people who are available to answer the query;

transmitting, via the control circuitry, the query to the subset of people available to answer the query;

receiving, by the control circuitry, a response to the query from each person of the subset; and

generating for display each received response to the query from the subset.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the query is subjective comprises:

extracting, via the control circuitry, words included in the query;

comparing, via the control circuitry, the extracted words against a database storing a predetermined list of words associated with subjective requests to identify a match;

in response to identifying a match, determining that the query is subjective.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the plurality of people qualified to answer the query comprises:

extracting, via the control circuitry, words included in the query;

comparing the words from the query to social media posts of people associated with the user to identify a match; and

identifying the plurality of people associated with social media posts that match the words from the query as qualified to answer the query.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the subset of people that are available to answer the query comprises:

retrieving, via the control circuitry, availability information corresponding to the plurality of people, wherein the availability information is retrieved from an electronic device associated with each of the plurality of people;

analyzing, by the control circuitry, the retrieved availability information to identify the subset of people that are available for a predetermined period of time after the query was received.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the availability information includes at least one of information related to a location of the people in the subset, information related to a schedule of the people in the subset, and information related to a capability of the electronic device associated with the people in the subset.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the query to the subset of people comprises:

selecting, by the control circuitry, a delivery method from a plurality of delivery methods for transmitting the query to the people in the subset, wherein the selection is made based at least in part on the determined availability of the one or more people in the subset; and

transmitting, by the control circuitry, the query to the one or more people in the subset via the selected delivery method.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the delivery method is selected based at least in part on an electronic device associated with the people in the subset.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating for display each received response to the query from the subset comprises:

receiving, via the control circuitry, a plurality of responses to the query from the people in the subset;

generating, via the control circuitry, a summary of the plurality of received responses; and

generating for display the generated summary as the received response to the query on an electronic device associated with the user.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating for display the received response to the query from the subset comprises:

announcing, via a digital assistant associated with the user, each received response to the query from the subset.

10. A system for processing subjective queries, the system comprising control circuitry configured to:

receive a query from a user;

determine whether the query is subjective;

in response to determining that the query is subjective:

identify a plurality of people qualified to answer the query including:

identify a first geographic location indicated in the query;

retrieve, via the control circuitry, geographic location information of each of the plurality of people associated with the user;

determine, via the control circuitry, whether a respective geographic location of each of plurality of people matches the first geographic location; and

identify the plurality of people whose geographic location information matches the first geographic location from the query as qualified to answer the query;

identify a subset of the plurality of people who are available to answer the query;

transmit the query to the subset of people available to answer the query;

receive a response to the query from each person of the subset; and

generate for display each received response to the query from the subset.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when determining whether the query is subjective, is configured to:

extract words included in the query;

compare the extracted words against a database storing a predetermined list of words associated with subjective requests to identify a match;

in response to identifying a match, determine that the query is subjective.

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when identifying the plurality of people qualified to answer the query, is configured to:

extract words included in the query;

compare the words from the query to social media posts of people associated with the user to identify a match; and

identify the plurality of people associated with social media posts that match the words from the query as qualified to answer the query.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when identifying the subset of people that are available to answer the query, is further configured to:

retrieve availability information corresponding to the plurality of people, wherein the availability information is retrieved from an electronic device associated with each of the plurality of people;

analyze the retrieved availability information to identify the subset of people that are available for a predetermined period of time after the query was received.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the availability information includes at least one of information related to a location of the people in the subset, information related to a schedule of the people in the subset, and information related to a capability of the electronic device associated with the people in the subset.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when transmitting the query to the subset of people, is configured to:

select a delivery method from a plurality of delivery methods for transmitting the query to the people in the subset, wherein the selection is made based at least in part on the determined availability of the one or more people in the subset; and

transmit the query to the one or more people in the subset via the selected delivery method.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the delivery method is selected based at least in part on an electronic device associated with the people in the subset.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when generating for display each received response to the query from the subset, is further configured to:

receive a plurality of responses to the query from the people in the subset;

generate a summary of the plurality of received responses; and

generate for display the generated summary as the received response to the query on an electronic device associated with the user.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein the control circuitry, when generating for display the received response to the query from the subset, is further configured to:

announce, via a digital assistant associated with the user, each received response to the query from the subset.
