Abstract

Collectors are provided to network devices of an existing computer network. A reference network type associated with the existing computer network is determined. Based at least in part on telemetry and configuration information received from the collectors and the reference network type, an intent-based network model of the existing computer network is generated. The existing computer network is validated using the generated intent-based network model.

Claims (40)

1. A method, comprising:

providing collectors to network devices of an existing computer network;

determining a reference network type associated with the existing computer network;

determining a telemetry service schema based on the determined reference network type, wherein the determined telemetry service schema includes a plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type;

based at least in part on telemetry and configuration information received from the collectors and the reference network type, generating an intent-based network model of the existing computer network, wherein generating the intent-based network model includes populating the plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type, wherein the intent-based network model indicates an intent associated with the existing computer network, wherein the intent associated with the existing computer network at least includes a user-specified declarative requirement for the existing computer network;

validating the existing computer network using the generated intent-based network model; and

managing the existing computer network using one or more intent-based network tools.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the intent-based network model is generated based at least in part on a received specification of one or more network intent constraints.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein validating the existing computer network includes determining a correspondence between a received specification of one or more network intent constraints and the received telemetry and configuration information.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the received network intent constraints include constraints implicit to the reference network type and/or constraints associated with a specific computer network.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the collectors include agents, or parts thereof, that are executed on the network devices of the existing computer network.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the reference network type includes a network architecture in which each switch in a leaf layer of switches is interconnected with each switch in a spine layer of switches in a full mesh topology.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the intent-based network model of the existing computer network includes representing at least a portion of the existing computer network as a graph representation of a set of connected computer network elements.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the graph representation comprises a plurality of nodes and at least one edge specifying a relationship between nodes.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising monitoring the validated computer network for anomalies, problems, faults, or errors.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein monitoring the validated computer network includes determining whether a portion of the generated intent-based network model corresponds to a triggering pattern and, in response to the determination that the portion of the generated intent-based network model corresponds to the triggering pattern, invoking a specified response.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein validating the existing computer network includes generating one or more verification models.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining that a change to the validated computer network has occurred and automatically configuring the validated computer network in response to the determination of the change.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the change to the validated computer network is determined based at least in part on determining that at least a portion of the generated intent-based network model has changed.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the change to the generated intent-based network model is determined based at least in part on determining that at least a portion of a graph representation matches a triggering pattern of a processing agent.

15. The method of claim 1 , wherein validating the existing computer network includes receiving approval of a blueprint associated with the generated intent-based network model.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein generating the intent-based network model includes populating the plurality of schema groups with at least a portion of the received telemetry and configuration information.

17. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the reference network type associated with the existing computer network includes receiving a specification of the reference network type.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein the existing computer network is validated at least in part by determining if the received telemetry information violates by constraints specific to the determined reference network type.

19. A system, comprising:

a processor configured to:

provide collectors to network devices of an existing computer network;

determine a reference network type associated with the existing computer network;

determine a telemetry service schema based on the determined reference network type, wherein the determined telemetry service schema includes a plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type;

based at least in part on telemetry and configuration information received from the collectors and the reference network type, generate an intent-based network model of the existing computer network, wherein to generate the intent-based network model, the processor is configured to populate the plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type, wherein the intent-based network model indicates an intent associated with the existing computer network, wherein the intent associated with the existing computer network at least includes a user-specified declarative requirement for the existing computer network; and

validate the existing computer network using the generated intent-based network model; and

manage the existing computer network using one or more intent-based network tools; and

a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

20. A computer program product, the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for:

providing collectors to network devices of an existing computer network;

determining a reference network type associated with the existing computer network;

determining a telemetry service schema based on the determined reference network type, wherein the determined telemetry service schema includes a plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type;

based at least in part on telemetry and configuration information received from the collectors and the reference network type, generating an intent-based network model of the existing computer network, wherein generating the intent-based network model includes populating the plurality of schema groups specific to the determined reference network type, wherein the intent-based network model indicates an intent associated with the existing computer network, wherein the intent associated with the existing computer network at least includes a user-specified declarative requirement for the existing computer network;

validating the existing computer network using the generated intent-based network model; and

managing the existing computer network using one or more intent-based network tools.
