Abstract

Devices for whitening teeth that include a mouth piece and an ultraviolet light source, a sterilizer that sterilizes the mouth piece, or at least one Hall-effect sensor. At least a portion of the device or mouth piece may be sterilized. A wireless charging system may drive the sterilizer or UV source, which may operate only when the mouth piece is not in the user's mouth or when the mouth piece is charging. A safety mechanism may protect the user from eye damage. The mouth piece may be charged while the mouth piece and UV source are in an enclosure. The UV source or sterilizer may turn on only while the mouth piece is in the enclosure or only while the enclosure is closed. The Hall-effect sensor(s) may control whether the UV source or sterilizer is on or may detect whether the mouth piece is docked within the charger.

Claims (18)

1. A teeth whitening kit, comprising:

a mouthpiece configured to be positioned in a user's mouth such that an inner surface extends adjacent at least a portion of a user's teeth, the mouthpiece having a whitening light source configured to deliver light along the portion of the user's teeth adjacent the inner surface of the mouthpiece for whitening the teeth, and an ultraviolet light source; and

an enclosure configured to receive the mouthpiece therein, and a cover movable between an open configuration for allowing insertion of the mouthpiece into the enclosure, and a closed configuration configured to fully enclose the mouthpiece within the enclosure, wherein the enclosure is configured to activate the ultraviolet light source upon movement of the cover to the closed configuration to initiate a disinfection procedure.

2. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the disinfection procedure is initiated for a predetermined time period.

3. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the enclosure includes a sensor that detects when the cover is moved from the open configuration to the closed configuration.

4. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the enclosure includes a wireless charging system configured to wirelessly charge the mouthpiece when the mouthpiece is disposed within the enclosure, and wherein the wireless charging system initiates a charging cycle upon movement of the cover to the closed configuration.

5. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the ultraviolet light source can only be activated when the cover is in the closed configuration.

6. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the wireless charging system drives the ultraviolet light source.

7. The kit of claim 1 , wherein the ultraviolet light source is positioned on an inner surface of the mouthpiece.

8. A teeth whitening kit, comprising:

a mouthpiece configured to be positioned in a user's mouth such that an outer case coupled to the mouthpiece projects outward from the user's mouth, the outer case including a plurality of light-emitting diodes configured to emit blue light and a battery configured to provide power to the plurality of light-emitting diodes, and the mouthpiece including a reflector disposed thereon and configured to evenly distribute the blue light from the plurality of light-emitting diodes along the user's teeth;

an enclosure having a wireless charging system therein, the enclosure being configured to receive the mouthpiece and to wirelessly charge the battery in the mouthpiece; and

an ultraviolet light source positioned in the mouthpiece, the ultraviolet light source being configured to deliver ultraviolet light to the mouthpiece for disinfecting the mouthpiece, and the ultraviolet light source being activatable only when disposed within the enclosure.

9. The kit of claim 8 , wherein the enclosure includes a sensor for detecting when the mouthpiece is disposed therein.

10. The kid of claim 8 , wherein the enclosure is configured to automatically activate the ultraviolet light source when the mouthpiece is disposed therein.

11. The kit of claim 10 , wherein the enclosure is configured to automatically activate the ultraviolet light source for a predetermined period of time.

12. The kit of claim 8 , wherein the enclosure includes a cover configured to fully enclose the mouthpiece within the enclosure.

13. The kit of claim 8 , wherein the enclosure is cylindrical.
