Method for simultaneously pressing and cutting a molded fiber part
Methods and apparatus for fabricating a molded fiber part are described. A system for forming a molded fiber container includes a first plate configured to receive a molded fiber part having a moisture content, and a second plate configured to compress the part against the first plate, wherein at least one of the first and second plates includes a die cutting blade.
1. A method for simultaneously pressing and cutting a molded fiber container, the method comprising:
receiving, at a first plate, a molded fiber part having a moisture content below 10%;
compressing the part against the first plate with a second plate; and
cutting the compressed molded fiber part by a die cutting blade integrated into at least one of the first and second plates.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the die cutting blade is configured to remove an excess portion of the molded fiber part.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first and second plates includes vent holes allow movement of heated air through the molded fiber part to reduce the moisture content of the part.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the die cutting blade is configured to cut the molded fiber part at a temperature in the range of 150 to 250 degrees Centigrade while the part is compressed.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the molded fiber part is a molded part from a fiber-based slurry tank.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the molded fiber part is a partially compressed part comprising pulp.
7. The method of claim 1 , wherein cutting comprises at least one of trimming, punching, forging, and forming.
