Abstract

A tobacco lozenge includes a body configured to be wholly receivable in an oral cavity. The body includes a matrix including a soluble fiber in an amount greater than or equal to 60 weight percent of the body, tobacco plant tissue dispersed in the matrix, and an additive dispersed in the matrix.

Claims (35)

1. A tobacco lozenge comprising:

a body configured to be wholly receivable in an oral cavity, the body including,

a matrix comprising a soluble fiber in an amount greater than or equal to 95 weight percent of the body,

tobacco plant tissue dispersed in the matrix, and

an additive dispersed in the matrix.

2. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the additive comprises a mineral, a vitamin, a dietary supplement, a nutraceutical, an energizing agent, a soothing agent, an amino acid, a chemesthetic agent, an antioxidant, a botanical, a teeth whitening agent, a therapeutic agent, a sub-combination thereof, or a combination thereof.

3. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the additive comprises a flavorant dispersed in the matrix.

The tobacco lozenge of claim 3 , wherein the flavorant comprises licorice, wintergreen, cherry and berry type flavorants, Drambuie, bourbon, scotch, whiskey, spearmint, peppermint, lavender, cinnamon, cardamon, apium graveolens, clove, cascarilla, nutmeg, sandalwood, bergamot, geranium, honey essence, rose oil, vanilla, lemon oil, orange oil, Japanese mint, cassia, caraway, cognac, jasmin, chamomile, menthol, ylang-ylang, sage, fennel, pimenta, ginger, anise, coriander, coffee, a mint oil from a species of the genus Mentha, a sub-combination thereof, or a combination thereof.

5. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the additive comprises a sweetener.

6. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , further comprising:

a coating on at least a portion of a surface of the body.

7. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises a plasticizer.

8. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the body is non-porous.

9. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises a colorant.

10. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the body has a glass transition temperature of greater than or equal to 37° C.

11. The tobacco lozenge of claim 10 , wherein the body has a glass transition temperature ranging from 50° C. to 120° C.

12. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the matrix is amorphous.

13. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the body is substantially free of sugar and sugar alcohols.

14. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the tobacco plant tissue is present in an amount greater than or equal to 1 weight percent of the body.

15. The tobacco lozenge of claim 1 , wherein the soluble fiber comprises maltodextrins, psyllium, inulin, arabinoxylans, cellulose, resistant starch, resistant dextrins, lignin, pectins, beta-glucans, oligosaccharides, a sub-combination thereof, or a combination thereof.

16. A tobacco lozenge comprising:

a body configured to be wholly receivable in an oral cavity, the body being amorphous, substantially free of sugar and sugar alcohols, and having a glass transition temperature of 50° C. to 120° C., the body including,

a matrix comprising a soluble fiber in an amount greater than or equal to 95 weight percent of the body, the matrix being amorphous,

tobacco plant tissue dispersed in the matrix, the tobacco plant tissue being present at greater than or equal to 1 weight percent of the body, and

an additive dispersed in the matrix.

17. A tobacco lozenge comprising:

a body configured to be wholly receivable in an oral cavity, the body including,

a matrix comprising a soluble fiber in an amount greater than or equal to 95 weight percent of the body, and

tobacco plant tissue dispersed in the matrix.

18. The tobacco lozenge of claim 17 , wherein

the body is amorphous,

the body is substantially free of sugar alcohols, and

the body has a glass transition temperature of 50° C. to 120° C.

19. The tobacco lozenge of claim 17 , wherein

the tobacco plant tissue is present in the body in an amount greater than or equal to 1 weight percent.
