Methods and compositions for conduit occlusion
The present invention comprises systems, methods and devices for the delivery of compositions for occluding or of means for opening conduits. The implantable occlusive material may be delivered pre-formed or in situ cured and, may be a resorbable material that supports tissue ingrowth that eventually replaces the material leaving little or no original material in place. The delivery system is positioned to allow for placement of the occlusive material into the body conduit. Use of delivery systems, methods and devices for re-opening an occluded body conduit are also included.
1. A method for occluding one fallopian tube in a mammal, comprising,
a) positioning at the cornua of one fallopian tube of a mammal, an end structure of a catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of the occlusive material composition;
b) delivering an effective amount of an occlusive material composition through and out the delivery end of the catheter so that the fallopian tube is occluded, wherein the occlusive material composition comprises a material that polymerizes after delivery of the occlusive material composition.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.
3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising,
c) withdrawing the catheter.
4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before the step a).
5. The method of claim 3 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before step a) or after step c).
6. The method of claim 3 , further comprising imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before step a) and after step c).
7. A method for delivering a fluid composition to two fallopian tubes in a mammal, comprising,
a) positioning at the cornua of each of two fallopian tubes of a mammal, an end structure of a catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of a fluid composition;
b) delivering an effective amount of the fluid composition through and out the delivery end of each of the catheters so that at least a portion of the fluid composition is delivered to each fallopian tube.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.
9. The method of claim 7 , further comprising,
c) withdrawing the two catheters.
10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the two fallopian tubes or both, before the step a).
11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the two fallopian tubes or both, before step a) or after step c).
12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising imaging with sonography the uterus, the two fallopian tubes or both, before step a) and after step c).
13. A method for delivering a fluid composition to one fallopian tube in a mammal, comprising,
a) positioning at the cornua of one fallopian tube of a mammal, an end structure of at least one catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of a fluid composition;
b) delivering an effective amount of the fluid composition through and out the delivery end of the catheter so that at least a portion of the fluid composition is delivered to the fallopian tube.
14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.
15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising,
c) withdrawing the at least one catheter.
16. The method of claim 13 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before the step a).
17. The method of claim 15 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before step a) or after step c).
18. The method of claim 15 , further comprising imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before step a) and after step c).
