Abstract

A fundus image capture system operates to determine if the system has captured an image that identifies the fundus, a region of interest in the image, or the current field of view. According to the determination, the system can guide the user to operate the system to capture a desired fundus image.

Claims (33)

1. A method of capturing a fundus image, the method comprising:

obtaining an image;

applying a mask to the image to generate a masked image;

identifying a fundus in the masked image;

displaying the masked image on a display device to a user; and

providing target guide marks as guide information on the masked image being displayed on the display device prior to capture of the fundus image to assist the user to use the guide information in capturing of the fundus image.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a track point as the guide information.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining that a region of interest is identified in the masked image.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising eroding the masked image to remove noise.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising dilating the masked image.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising thresholding the masked image.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising applying a binary threshold to separate the masked image.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising dilating the masked image.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising thresholding the masked image.

10. An apparatus for producing a fundus image, the apparatus comprising:

a processor;

an image capture device for capturing images; and

a non-transitory computer readable storage device storing software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to:

obtain an image from the image capture device;

apply a mask to the image to generate a masked image;

identify a fundus in the masked image;

display the masked image on a display device to a user;

provide target guide marks as guide information on the masked image on the display device prior to capture of the fundus image; and

allow the user to use the guide information to assist the user to use the guide information in capture of the fundus image.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to display a track point as the guide information.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to determine that a region of interest is identified in the masked image.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to erode the masked image to remove noise.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to dilate the masked image.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to threshold the masked image.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to apply a binary threshold to separate the masked image.

17. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to dilate the masked image.

18. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to threshold the masked image.

19. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising software instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to identify a region of interest in the masked image.
