Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for dynamically allocating and accessing hosting server resources to users of hosting services. The system may include one or more servers that provide multiple levels of access to the hosting server resources, and an administration server configured with one or more migration paths that allow the user to migrate the account between two levels while the account remains accessible to all entities authorized to access the account. The hosting server resources may be divided according to virtual partitions that are resizable by the administration server. The system may include a migration interface stored on and accessible to the user from the administration server. The migration interface provides the user with options to migrate the account between the levels of access. The system may include an application programming interface that provides access to the administration server for changing the account's level of access.

Claims (28)

1. A method comprising:

displaying, by a hosting provider to a user having an account associated with a partitioned resource, wherein the partitioned resource is associated with a first set of resources, a first migration path to add a first resource to the first set of resources, and a second migration path to remove a second resource from the first set of resources;

receiving, by the hosting provider from the user, a selected migration path, wherein the selected migration path identifies the first migration path or the second migration path;

modifying, by the hosting provider, the account of the user according to the selected migration path by copying the account from a first hosting server to a second hosting server;

wherein the first migration path facilitates instant addition of the first resource to the first set of resources;

wherein the first migration path comprises a migration path from a dedicated platform to a shared platform or from the shared platform to the dedicated platform; and

wherein the partitioned resource comprises a virtual partition.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein when the selected migration path identifies the first migration path, modifying the account of the user includes modifying the account of the user to include the first resource.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource includes storage space, physical memory, or network bandwidth.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first resource includes a number of accessible CPUs.

5. A method, comprising:

determining, by a hosting provider hosting an account associated with a partitioned resource, a first set of resources, and a user, a first migration path to add a first resource to the first set of resources;

receiving, by the hosting provider from the user, a selected migration path, wherein the selected migration path identifies the first migration path;

modifying, by the hosting provider, the account of the user according to the selected migration path by copying the account from a first hosting server to a second hosting server;

wherein the first migration path facilitates instant addition of the first resource to the first set of resources;

wherein the first migration path comprises a migration path from a dedicated platform to a shared platform or from the shared platform to the dedicated platform; and

wherein the partitioned resource comprises a virtual partition.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first resource includes storage space, physical memory, or network bandwidth.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein the first resource includes a number of accessible CPUs.

8. A system, comprising:

a hosting provider hosting an account associated with a partitioned resource, a first set of resources, and a user, wherein the hosting provider includes a processor configured to execute instructions for:

determining a first migration path to add a first resource to the first set of resources;

receiving a selected migration path, wherein the selected migration path identifies the first migration path;

modifying the account of the user according to the selected migration path by copying the account from a first hosting server to a second hosting server;

wherein the first migration path facilitates instant addition of the first resource to the first set of resources;

wherein the first migration path comprises a migration path from a dedicated platform to a shared platform or from the shared platform to the dedicated platform; and

wherein the partitioned resource comprises a virtual partition.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the first resource includes storage space, physical memory, network bandwidth, or a number of accessible CPUs.
