Drawer glide mechanism
A drawer glide mechanism can include a first elongate guide member, a second elongate glide member, a ball bearing component, and a v-notch socket. The first elongate guide member includes a distal end that is configured to fit within an opening in the v-notch socket. The drawer glide mechanism can further include one or more floating members and fixed members.
1. A method of assembling a drawer system, the method comprising:
providing a drawer glide mechanism having:
a first elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
a second elongate guide member connected to the first elongate guide member and configured to slide longitudinally with respect to the first elongate guide member, the second elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
at least one fixed member extending from the second elongate guide member in a direction away from the first elongate guide member and non-parallel to the longitudinally extending body of the second elongate guide member, wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first portion having a first cross-sectional area and a second portion having a second cross-sectional area, the first cross-sectional area being greater than the second cross-sectional area;
at least one movable member comprising:
a first end and a second end opposite the first end; and
an opening extending through an interior of the at least one movable member from the first end to the second end, wherein the opening comprises a first portion having a first cross-sectional area and a second portion having a second cross-sectional area, the first cross-sectional area being greater than the second cross-sectional area, and wherein the first and second portions of the opening define at least one ledge within the interior of the at least one movable member, wherein the first portion of the opening is sized to receive the first portion of the at least one fixed member, and wherein the second portion of the opening is sized to receive the second portion of the at least one fixed member;
wherein, when the at least one movable member moves a distance along an axis extending through the at least one fixed member, the at least one ledge of the opening contacts the first portion of the at least one fixed member to limit a movement of the at least one moveable member relative to the at least one fixed member;
a ball bearing component positioned between the first and second elongate guide members; and
a socket connected to a distal end of the first elongate guide member;
connecting the socket to a back wall of a drawer cabinet such that the socket facilitates lateral movement of the distal end of the first elongate guide member with respect to the back wall;
connecting the first elongate guide member to a frame of the drawer cabinet; and
connecting the second elongate guide member to a drawer by securing the at least one movable member to the drawer.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said securing the at least one movable member to the drawer comprises securing the at least one movable member to the drawer such that the second elongate guide member is permitted to move toward and away from the drawer.
3. A drawer glide mechanism comprising:
a first elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
a second elongate guide member positioned at least partially within the first elongate guide member and configured to slide with respect to the first elongate guide member, the second elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
at least one fixed member extending from the second elongate guide member in a direction away from the first elongate guide member and non-parallel to the longitudinally extending body of the second elongate guide member, wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first portion having a first cross-sectional area and a second portion having a second cross-sectional area, the first cross-sectional area being greater than the second cross-sectional area; and
at least one movable member positioned at least partially over the at least one fixed member and configured to move relative to the at least one fixed member, the at least one movable member comprising:
a first end and a second end opposite the first end; and
an opening extending through an interior of the at least one movable member from the first end to the second end, wherein the opening comprises a first portion having a first cross-sectional area and a second portion having a second cross-sectional area, the first cross-sectional area being greater than the second cross-sectional area, and wherein the first and second portions of the opening define at least one ledge within the interior of the at least one movable member, wherein the first portion of the opening is sized to receive the first portion of the at least one fixed member, and wherein the second portion of the opening is sized to receive the second portion of the at least one fixed member;
wherein, when the at least one movable member moves a distance along an axis extending through the at least one fixed member, the at least one ledge of the opening contacts the first portion of the at least one fixed member to limit a movement of the at least one moveable member relative to the at least one fixed member.
4. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the first and second portions of the at least one fixed member comprise circular cross-sections.
5. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a first height and wherein the second portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a second height, the second height being greater than the first height.
6. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member is located at the first end.
7. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 6 , wherein the second end of the at least one fixed member is welded to the second elongate guide member.
8. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 6 , wherein the at least one fixed member is integral with the second elongate guide member.
9. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the first portion of the opening extends from the first end into the interior of the at least one movable member a first distance and wherein the second portion of the opening extends from the second end into the interior of the at least one movable member a second distance, the second distance being greater than the first distance.
10. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 3 , wherein the at least one movable member comprises an exterior surface that is configured to secure to a side panel of a drawer.
11. A drawer glide mechanism comprising:
a first elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
a second elongate guide member positioned at least partially within the first elongate guide member and configured to slide with respect to the first elongate guide member, the second elongate guide member having a longitudinally extending body;
at least one fixed member extending from the second elongate guide member, wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having a different cross-sectional area than the second portion; and
at least one movable member positioned at least partially over the at least one fixed member and configured to move relative to the at least one fixed member, the at least one movable member comprising:
a first end and a second end opposite the first end; and
an opening extending through an interior of the at least one movable member from the first end to the second end, wherein the opening comprises a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having a different cross-sectional area than the second portion, and wherein the first and second portions of the opening define at least one ledge within the interior of the at least one movable member, wherein the first portion of the opening is sized to receive the first portion of the at least one fixed member, and wherein the second portion of the opening is sized to receive the second portion of the at least one fixed member;
wherein, when the at least one movable member moves relative to the at least one fixed member a distance, the at least one ledge contacts the first portion of the at least one fixed member.
12. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a first diameter and the second portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a second diameter, the first diameter being greater than the second diameter.
13. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a first diameter, the first portion of the opening of the at least one movable member comprises a second diameter, and the second portion of the opening of the at least one movable member comprises a third diameter, and wherein the first diameter is greater than the third diameter but no greater than the second diameter.
14. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the at least one fixed member extends from the second elongate guide member in a direction away from the first elongate guide member and non-parallel to the longitudinally extending body of the second elongate guide member.
15. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the at least one movable member comprises an exterior surface that is configured to secure to a side panel of a drawer.
16. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the at least one fixed member comprises metal and wherein the at least one movable member comprises plastic.
17. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a first height and wherein the second portion of the at least one fixed member comprises a second height, the second height being greater than the first height.
18. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first end and a second end opposite the first end, and wherein the first portion of the at least one fixed member is located at the first end.
19. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the first portion of the opening extends from the first end into the interior of the at least one movable member a first distance and wherein the second portion of the opening extends from the second end into the interior of the at least one movable member a second distance, the second distance being greater than the first distance.
20. The drawer glide mechanism of claim 11 , wherein the at least one fixed member comprises a first height and the at least one movable member comprises a second height, wherein the first and second heights are equal.
