Abstract

An apparatus including a camera optical element and a tactile indicator associated with the camera optical element for indicating a property of the camera optical element.

Claims (23)

1. An apparatus comprising:

an optical element configured for use with a camera; and

an indicator associated with an outer surface the optical element, wherein the indicator comprises one or more surface features configured to convey a property of the optical element by touch.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the optical element is a filter or a lens or a combination thereof adapted for attachment with a camera.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the one or more surface features are identically configured.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the optical element includes a front surface, a rear surface, and a side surface, and wherein the indicator is located on the side surface.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the indicator is positioned on the outer surface proximate an edge of the optical element.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the indicator comprises a number of surface features spaced apart from each other.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the optical element includes an optical body and a frame disposed over at least a portion of the optical body, the indicator being positioned on the frame.

8. A system comprising:

an optical element having a fixed optical property and configured for use with a camera; and

one or more indicators disposed along a portion of the optical element, wherein the one or more indicators are configured to convey to a user the fixed optical property of the optical element by touch.

9. The system of claim 8 comprising a number of optical elements each having a different fixed optical property, wherein each of the optical elements comprise the one or more indicators that are configured to convey to a user the different respective optical property of each optical element by touch.

10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the one or more indicators comprise one or more surface features disposed along an outer surface of the optical element.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the optical element comprise a front surface, a rear surface, and a side surface, and wherein the one or more surface features are disposed along a portion of the side surface.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein one or more of the number and shape of the one or more indicators operates to convey the optical property of the optical element by touch.

13. The system of claim 8 , further comprising a camera connected with the optical element.

14. A method for determining an optical property of an optical element configured for use with a camera, comprising touching an indicator associated with an optical element, wherein the indicator is configured to convey an optical property of the optical element to a user by touch.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the indicator comprises one or more surface features disposed along an outer surface of the optical element and the step of touching involves a user touching the surface features.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the optical element comprises more than one indicator and the step of determining the optical property of the optical element comprises a user touching the more than one indicator and determining a quantity of the more than one indicators.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein the optical property of the optical element is conveyed by touching the indicator and registering one or both the number of indicators or the shape of the indicator.

18. The system as recited in claim 8 , wherein the optical element includes an optical body and a frame disposed over at least a portion of the optical body, the one or more indicators being positioned along an outer surface of the frame.

19. The system as recited in claim 18 comprising a number of indicators in the form of a number of surface features disposed along the outer surface of the frame, wherein the optical property of the optical element is derived from the number and/or shape of the surface features.
