Pump and means for controlling a pump
A pump with a controller for adjusting head pressure using a pressure boost is provided. The pressure boost may be dynamically adjusted during a surgical procedure based on the device being used and inflow and/or outflow settings.
1. A surgical pump system comprising:
a surgical pump to provide fluid flow to a surgical site;
a pump controller in communication with the surgical pump, the pump controller configured to receive a set head pressure and communicate the set head pressure to the surgical pump, and
at least one surgical device in communication with the pump controller such that the pump controller receives device information from the surgical device,
wherein the pump controller is configured to adjust the fluid flow to provide a pressure boost, the pressure boost being determined by the pump controller using the device information to determine a desired surgical site pressure and a desired surgical site fluid flow rate, the pressure boost being the difference between the set head pressure and the desired surgical site pressure at the desired surgical site fluid flow rate.
2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the device information includes the type of surgical device.
3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the device information includes an outflow mode or an inflow mode of the surgical device.
4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pump controller does not determine the pressure boost when the surgical device is not activated.
5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pump controller includes a look-up table for information about the surgical device, the information being used to determine the pressure boost.
6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pump controller uses a maximum outflow value to determine pressure boost if the surgical pump is not in any of an inflow mode and an outflow mode.
7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pump controller uses a set outflow value to determine a pressure boost if the surgical pump is in any of an inflow or outflow mode.
8. The system of claim 1 , including a first and a second surgical device wherein the pump controller adjusts the fluid flow to correspond to a first and a second pressure boost corresponding to the first and second surgical device respectively.
9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the device information includes an inflow RPM value.
10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the pump controller further determines whether the inflow RPM value is greater than a predetermined set value RPM.
11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the pump controller determines a zero pressure boost if the inflow RPM value is greater than the predetermined set value RPM.
12. A surgical pump providing a fluid flow rate to a surgical site, the surgical pump comprising:
a pump controller in communication with the surgical pump, the pump controller configured to receive a set head pressure and communicate the set head pressure to the surgical pump, the pump controller being in communication with at least one surgical device such that the pump controller receives device information from the surgical device,
wherein the pump controller adjusts the fluid flow to correspond to a pressure boost, the pressure boost being determined by the pump controller using the device information to determine a desired surgical site pressure and a desired surgical site fluid flow rate, the pressure boost being the difference between the set head pressure and the desired surgical site pressure at the desired surgical site fluid flow rate.
13. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the device information includes the type of surgical device.
14. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the device information includes an outflow mode or an inflow mode of the surgical device.
15. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the pump controller does not determine the pressure boost when the surgical device is not activated.
16. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the pump controller includes a look-up table for information about the surgical device, the information being used to determine the pressure boost.
17. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the pump controller uses a maximum outflow value to determine pressure boost if the surgical pump is not in any of an inflow mode and an outflow mode.
18. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the pump controller uses a set outflow value to determine a pressure boost if the surgical pump is in any of an inflow or outflow mode.
19. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the pump controller is in communication with a first and a second surgical device such that the pump controller adjusts the fluid flow to correspond to a first and a second pressure boost corresponding to the first and second surgical device respectively.
20. The surgical pump of claim 12 , wherein the device information includes an inflow RPM value.
21. The surgical pump of claim 20 , wherein the pump controller further determines whether the inflow RPM value is greater than a predetermined set value RPM.
22. The surgical pump of claim 21 , wherein the pump controller determines a zero pressure boost if the inflow RPM value is greater than the predetermined set value RPM.
