Abstract

A method for analyzing the condition of a machine, and an apparatus for analyzing the condition of a machine are described.

Claims (32)

1. A method of determining an operating condition of a machine that includes a rotating component, the method comprising:

obtaining signal data from a vibration sensor in proximity to the rotating component, said vibration sensor coupled with a portable first computing device;

performing signal processing of the obtained signal data with the first computing device prior to transmission, said signal processing comprising:

extracting a first parameter from a window in time domain representation of the obtained signal data; and

extracting a second parameter from a frequency transformed representation of the same window of the obtained signal data;

transmitting, over a wireless connection, partly processed data including the first parameter and the second parameter to a second computing device instead of the obtained signal data; and

determining the operating condition based on the first parameter and the second parameter.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first parameter comprises a peak level analysis data.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the peak level analysis data corresponds to one or more peak amplitudes.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the peak level analysis data corresponds to a frequency of occurrences at one or more peak amplitudes.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second parameter comprises a repetition frequency.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second computing device comprises a server.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second computing device comprises a portable computing device.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the operating condition on the second computing device.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying the operating condition on a third computing device, separate from the first computing device and the second computing device, wherein the second computing device comprises a server.

10. A system for determining an operating condition of a machine that includes a rotating component, the system comprising:

a portable first computing device comprising:

a vibration sensor configured to obtain signal data responsive to a rotating component;

one or more hardware processors is configured to:

perform signal processing of the obtained signal data with the first computing device prior to transmission, said signal processing comprising:

extracting a first parameter from window in a time domain representation of the obtained signal data; and

extracting a second parameter from a frequency transformed representation of the same window of the obtained signal data; and

transmit, over a wireless connection, partly processed data including the first parameter and the second parameter to a second computing device instead of the obtained signal data;

wherein, said second computing device is configured to determine the operating condition based on the first parameter and the second parameter.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first parameter comprises a peak level analysis data.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the peak level analysis data corresponds to one or more peak amplitudes.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the peak level analysis data corresponds to a frequency of occurrences at one or more peak amplitudes.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second parameter comprises a repetition frequency.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device comprises a server.

16. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device comprises a portable computing device.

17. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to display the operating condition.

18. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second computing device is further configured to display the operating condition on a third computing device that is separate from the first computing device and the second computing device, wherein the second computing device comprises a server.
