Abstract

A system for applying reduced pressure to tissue includes a multi-lumen reduced pressure delivery tube having a proximate end, a distal end, a primary lumen extending through the conduit from the proximate end to the distal end, and an ancillary lumen extending through the conduit from the proximate end to the distal end. A vacuum pump is coupled to the proximate end of the primary lumen, and a reduced pressure adapter is coupled to the distal end of the reduced pressure delivery tube. The adapter includes channels to direct liquid away from the ancillary lumens and into the primary lumen.

Claims (63)

1. A system for providing reduced pressure to a tissue site, the system comprising:

a reduced-pressure adapter;

a delivery lumen fluidly coupled to the reduced-pressure adapter;

a reduced-pressure source fluidly coupled to the delivery lumen;

a first measurement lumen fluidly coupled to the reduced-pressure adapter;

a first pressure sensor fluidly coupled to the first measurement lumen;

a first valve fluidly coupled to the first measurement lumen;

a second measurement lumen fluidly coupled to the reduced-pressure adapter;

a second pressure sensor fluidly coupled to the second measurement lumen;

a second valve fluidly coupled to the second measurement lumen; and

a controller coupled to the reduced-pressure source, the first pressure sensor, the first valve, the second pressure sensor, and the second valve, the controller configured to:

receive data from the first pressure sensor and the second pressure sensor indicative of pressure at the tissue site;

compare data from the first pressure sensor and the second pressure sensor,

open the first valve if a response time of the first pressure sensor is greater than a response time of the second pressure sensor; and

operate the reduced-pressure source based on the data from the second pressure sensor if the response time of the first pressure sensor is greater than the response time of the second pressure sensor.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises:

a base; and

a housing rotatable about the base.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the delivery lumen, the first measurement lumen, and the second measurement lumen are disposed within a single tube.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the tube has an oval cross-section.

5. The system of claim 3 , wherein the delivery lumen has a diameter that is larger than a diameter of the first measurement lumen and a diameter of the second measurement lumen.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises channels configured to direct liquid away from the first measurement lumen and the second measurement lumen.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a distribution manifold attached to the reduced-pressure adapter; and

a drape comprising an adhesive surface adapted for securing the reduced-pressure adapter and the distribution manifold to the tissue site.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises:

a housing having an entry surface;

a primary conduit through the housing coupled to the delivery lumen and terminating on the entry surface;

a first ancillary conduit through the housing coupled to the first measurement lumen and terminating on the entry surface; and

a second ancillary conduit through the housing coupled to the second measurement lumen and terminating on the entry surface.

9. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a base attached to the housing; and

guide channels on the base.

10. The system of claim 8 , further comprising:

a base attached to the housing; and

radial guide channels on the base adapted to direct liquid from a periphery of the base away from the first ancillary conduit and the second ancillary conduit.

11. A method for treating a tissue site with reduced pressure, the method comprising:

providing reduced pressure to the tissue site through a delivery lumen and a reduced-pressure adapter;

receiving data indicative of pressure at the tissue site from a first pressure sensor fluidly coupled to the tissue site by a first measurement lumen and the reduced-pressure adapter and a second pressure sensor fluidly coupled to the tissue site by a second measurement lumen and the reduced-pressure adapter;

comparing data from the first pressure sensor and the second pressure sensor;

opening a first valve fluidly coupled to the first measurement lumen if a response time of the first pressure sensor is greater than a response time of the second pressure sensor; and

operating a reduced-pressure source based on the data from the second pressure sensor if the response time of the first pressure sensor is greater than the response time of the second pressure sensor.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises:

a base; and

a housing rotatable about the base.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the delivery lumen, the first measurement lumen, and the second measurement lumen are disposed within a single tube.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the tube has an oval cross-section.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the delivery lumen has a diameter that is larger than a diameter of the first measurement lumen and a diameter of the second measurement lumen.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises channels configured to direct liquid away from the first measurement lumen and the second measurement lumen.

17. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

a distribution manifold attached to the reduced-pressure adapter; and

a drape comprising an adhesive surface adapted for securing the reduced-pressure adapter and the distribution manifold to the tissue site.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the reduced-pressure adapter comprises:

a housing having an entry surface;

a primary conduit through the housing coupled to the delivery lumen and terminating on the entry surface;

a first ancillary conduit through the housing coupled to the first measurement lumen and terminating on the entry surface; and

a second ancillary conduit through the housing coupled to the second measurement lumen and terminating on the entry surface.

19. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

a base attached to the housing; and

guide channels on the base.

20. The method of claim 18 , further comprising:

a base attached to the housing; and

radial guide channels on the base adapted to direct liquid from a periphery of the base away from the first ancillary conduit and the second ancillary conduit.
