Olefins and methods for making the same
Provided herein are olefinic feedstocks derived from conjugated hydrocarbon terpenes (e.g., C 10 -C 30 terpenes), methods for making the same, and methods for their use.
1. An olefinic feedstock comprising at least about 70-80% hexahydrofarnesene, about 5-10% farnesane, and about 10-20% tetrahydrofarnesene; or at least about 70-80% hexahydrofarnesene, about 5-15% farnesane, and about 5% or less tetrahydrofarnesene.
2. The olefinic feedstock of claim 1 , comprising about 10% tetrahydrofarnesene, or about 5% or less tetrahydrofarnesene.
3. The olefinic feedstock of claim 1 further comprising an olefin selected from the group consisting of a C 5 -C 20 linear alpha olefin, a C 5 -C 20 branched alpha olefin, a C 5 -C 20 linear internal olefin, and a C 5 -C 20 branched internal olefin.
4. The olefinic feedstock of claim 2 , comprising at least about 75% hexahydrofarnesene and about 10% tetrahydrofarnesene; at least about 75% hexahydrofarnesene and about 5% or less tetrahydrofarnesene; or at least about 75% hexahydrofarnesene and about 3% or less tetrahydrofarnesene.
5. The olefinic feedstock of claim 2 , comprising less than about 1 ppm sulfur; less than about 1 ppm aromatic compounds; or less than about 1 ppm sulfur and less than about 1 ppm aromatic compounds.
