Abstract

A system includes a first lidar sensor and a second lidar sensor, where each lidar sensor includes a scanner configured to direct a set of pulses of light along a scan pattern and a receiver configured to detect scattered light from the set of light pulses. The scan patterns are at least partially overlapped in an overlap region. The system further includes an enclosure, where the first lidar sensor and the second lidar sensor are contained within the enclosure. Each scanner includes one or more mirrors, and each mirror is driven by a scan mechanism.

a second receiver configured to detect scattered light from the second set of pulses of light, wherein the second receiver comprises a second optical filter configured to transmit light at the second wavelength and block light at the first wavelength;

an enclosure, wherein the first lidar sensor and the second lidar sensor are contained within the enclosure, wherein the enclosure comprises a window configured to transmit the first set of pulses of light and the second set of pulses of light, wherein the window comprises a surface with a dielectric coating that is anti-reflecting at the first and second wavelengths; and

wherein the first scanner and the second scanner include one or more of a galvanometer scanner, a resonant scanner, a microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) device, a polygonal scanner, or a voice coil motor.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the light source comprises a fiber laser, wherein the fiber laser is configured to produce the first set of pulses of light and the second set of pulses of light.

3. The system of claim 2 wherein the fiber laser is configured with an operating wavelength between 1400 nm and 1600 nm.

4. The system of claim 2 wherein the fiber laser is contained within the enclosure.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller configured to determine a distance from the system to a target based at least in part on a round-trip time of flight for a pulse of light to travel from the system to the target and back to the system.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller configured to adjust a density of pixels of the first or second scan pattern.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a controller configured to:

perform a scan that covers a field of regard of the system; and

perform a targeted scan that covers a targeted scan region of the field of regard, wherein the targeted scan that covers the targeted scan region has a higher pixel density than the scan that covers the field of regard.

8. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a third lidar sensor contained within the enclosure, wherein the third lidar sensor comprises:

a third scanner configured to scan a third set of pulses of light along a third scan pattern, wherein the second scan pattern and the third scan pattern are at least partially overlapped; and

a third receiver configured to detect scattered light from the third set of pulses of light.

9. The lidar system of claim 1 , wherein the surface of the window has a reflectivity less than or equal to 1% at the first and second wavelengths.

10. The lidar system of claim 1 , wherein the dielectric coating is high-reflecting at wavelengths away from the first and second wavelengths.

a sensor system comprising:

a light source configured to produce a first set of pulses of light having a first wavelength and a second set of pulses of light having a second wavelength different from the first wavelength;

a first lidar sensor comprising:

a first scanner configured to scan the first set of pulses of light along a first scan pattern; and

a first receiver configured to detect scattered light from the first set of pulses of light to capture a first set of pixels, wherein the first receiver comprises a first optical filter configured to transmit light at the first wavelength and block light at the second wavelength;

a second lidar sensor comprising:

a second scanner configured to scan the second set of pulses of light along a second scan pattern, wherein the first scan pattern and the second scan pattern are at least partially overlapped in an overlap region; and

a second receiver configured to detect scattered light from the second set of pulses of light to capture a second set of pixels, wherein the second receiver comprises a second optical filter configured to transmit light at the second wavelength and block light at the first wavelength;

an enclosure, wherein the first lidar sensor and the second lidar sensor are contained within the enclosure, wherein the enclosure comprises a window configured to transmit the first set of pulses of light and the second set of pulses of light, wherein the window comprises a surface with a dielectric coating that is anti-reflecting at the first and second wavelengths; and
