Abstract

An online agricultural system manages and optimizes interactions of entities within the system to enable the execution of transaction and the transportation of crop products. The online agricultural system accesses historic and environmental data describing factors that may impact crop product transactions and/or transportation to determine market prices for crop products and crop product transportation. Responsive to receiving a request from an entity, the online agricultural system determines an optimal transaction for the entity, such as a price for selling a crop product, an available crop product for purchase, or a transportation opportunity to transport a crop product.

Claims (39)

1 . A method for arranging for transportation of a crop product comprising:

accessing an interaction within an online system between a crop producer and an acquiring entity, the interaction associated with a crop product listing identifying a crop product type, a crop product quantity, a crop product pick-up location, and a crop product destination location;

identifying, in real-time, a set of transportation entities each able to transport the crop product from the crop product pick-up location to the crop product destination location based at least in part on: a distance between the transportation entity and the crop product pick-up location, a distance between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location, environmental factors associated with transporting the crop product, and equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product; and

modifying, for each of one or more of the set of transportation entities, an interface displayed by a client device of the transportation entity to include a transportation price computed based at least in part on: the distance between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location, and the environmental factors associated with transporting the crop product, wherein the listing interface is configured to, in response to a selection of the transportation price by the transportation entity, automatically execute a contract with the transportation entity to pick-up the crop product at the crop product pick-up location and to transport the crop product to the crop product destination location in exchange for compensation based on the transportation price.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the interaction within the online system comprises a request by the acquiring entity to purchase the crop product associated with the crop product listing from the crop producer.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the identified set of transportation entities are currently located within a threshold distance of the crop pick-up location.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the environmental factors associated with transporting the crop product comprise one or both of predicted weather conditions between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location, and predicted traffic conditions between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise required loading equipment to load the crop product at the crop product pick-up location.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise required unloading equipment to unload the crop product at the crop product destination location.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise a transportation capacity able to transport the quantity of the crop product.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise equipment to protect the crop product from moisture during transportation.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise equipment to monitor a measure of moisture of the crop product during transportation.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise equipment to protect the crop product from temperature fluctuation during transportation.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product comprise equipment to monitor a temperature of the crop product during transportation.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the interface displayed by the client device is displayed within a transportation application configured to identify candidate transportation routes for the selected transportation entity and to enable the transportation entity to select from among the identified candidate transportation routes.

The method of claim 1 , wherein the interface displayed by the client device is displayed within a transportation application configured to automatically select a transportation route for the selected transportation entity to transport a crop product associated with the selected transportation route.

14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price increases as the distance between the transportation entity and the crop product pick-up location increases.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price increases as the distance between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location increases.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price increases as an estimated transportation time increases.

17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price increases as an estimated wait time at one or both of the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location increases.

18 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price is based on inclement weather conditions associated with transporting the crop product.

19 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price is based on one or more of: a current or expected seasonal demand associated with the crop product, a current or expected seasonal demand for all crop products, a number of interactions within the online system associated with the crop product, a number of interactions within the online system associated with a plurality of crop products, and an amount of activity within the online system associated with one or more of the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location.

20 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price is based on a number of transportation entities in the set of transportation entities.

21 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the computed transportation price is based on a distance between the transportation entity and the crop product pick-up location.

22 . A method for arranging for transportation of a crop product comprising:

modifying an interface displayed by a client device of a crop producer to include a crop product listing, the crop product listing identifying a crop product type, a crop product quantity, a first crop product price, and a crop product destination;

identifying, in real-time, a set of transportation entities able to transport the crop product from a crop product pick-up location associated with the crop producer to the crop product destination location based at least in part on: a distance between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location, environmental factors associated with transporting the crop product, and equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product;

selecting a transportation entity from the set of transportation entities based on a transportation price to transport the crop product from the crop product pick-up location to the crop product destination location for each transportation entity; and

modifying the interface displayed by the client device to include the first crop product price and a second crop product price computed based on a combination of the first crop product price and the transportation price associated with the selected transportation entity, the interface configured to, in response to a selection of the second crop product price by the crop producer, automatically execute a contract with the selected transportation entity to pick-up the crop product at the crop product pick-up location and to transport the crop product to the crop product destination location in exchange for compensation based on the transportation price.

26 . A method for arranging for transportation of a crop product comprising:

modifying an interface displayed by a client device of a prospective acquiring entity to include a crop product listing identifying a crop product type, a crop product quantity, a first crop product price, and a crop product pick-up location;

identifying, in real-time, a set of transportation entities able to transport the crop product from the crop product pick-up location to a crop product destination location associated with the prospective acquiring entity based at least in part on a distance between the crop product pick-up location and the crop product destination location, environmental factors associated with transporting the crop product, and equipment requirements associated with transporting the crop product;

selecting a transportation entity from the set of transportation entities based on a transportation price to transport the crop product from the crop product pick-up location to the crop product destination location for each transportation entity; and

modifying the interface displayed by the client device to include the first crop product price and a second crop product price computed based on a combination of the first crop product price and the transportation price associated with the selected transportation entity, the listing interface configured to, in response to a selection of the second crop product price by the prospective acquiring entity, automatically execute a contract with the selected transportation entity to pick-up the crop product at the crop product pick-up location and to transport the crop product to the crop product destination location in exchange for compensation based on the transportation price.

42 . The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the set of transportation entities is configured to monitor one or more quality metrics of a crop product being transported in real-time.

43 . The method of claim 42 , wherein at least one transportation entity is configured to monitor one or more quality metrics of the crop product being transported via one or more sensors within a transportation vehicle of the transportation entity.

44 . The method of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the set of transportation entities is selected based on one or more of: a trustworthiness or reputation score associated with the transportation entity, a location of the transportation entity, a heading of the transportation entity, a speed of the transportation entity, an engine revolutions per minute (RPM) of the transportation entity, a miles per gallon (MPG) of the transportation entity, a measure of engine efficiency of the transportation entity, a proximity of the transportation entity to a pick-up location, a proximity to a facility for cleaning transportation equipment of the transportation entity, an estimated cost of operation of the transportation entity, and an inferred preference of the transportation entity.
