Abstract

Limited-number-of-use neuromodulator apparatuses that may be comfortably worn on the skin of a user to non-invasively apply transdermal electrical stimulation (TES). The apparatuses described herein may be include a flexible/bendable substrate and an elastomeric cover (e.g., formed of an elastomeric fabric). These apparatuses may be simplified, to run autonomously. These apparatuses may also include improved power management features.

Claims (44)

1. A wearable neuromodulator patch device, the device comprising:

a flexible substrate;

a first electrode;

a second electrode on the flexible substrate, wherein the first and second electrodes each comprise an adhesive hydrogel on a first side of the substrate;

a battery;

a control circuitry coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect an impedance between the first and second electrodes and to deliver a predefined waveform between the first and second electrodes when the battery is powering the control circuitry, the predefined waveform configured to provide constant current electrical pulses;

a removable circuit interrupt interposed between the battery and the control circuitry and configured to be removed from the device to electrically engage the battery with the control circuitry,

wherein the control circuitry is configured to deliver the predefined waveform for 15 minutes or less when the battery is engaged with the control circuitry and when a detected impedance between the first and second electrode is within a range of values that indicate contact with skin; and

an elastic cover on a side of the substrate that is opposite of the first side, wherein the battery and control circuitry are between the cover and the flexible substrate, further wherein the device weighs 20 g or less, has a maximum thickness of 7 mm or less, and a maximum diameter of 10 cm or less.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the elastic cover comprises an elastomeric fabric.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the elastic cover comprises an elastomeric cotton.

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the elastic cover comprises a nonwoven elastomeric material.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the battery and control circuitry are at least partially wrapped in the elastic cover.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the elastic cover is secured over the flexible substrate.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the elastic cover is adhesively secured to the flexible substrate.

8. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a frame securing the battery and the control circuitry, wherein the frame is covered by the elastic cover.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the first electrode further comprises a first hydrogel and the second electrode further comprises a second hydrogel.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the waveform has a frequency of between 100 Hz and 15 KHz and delivers a charge per phase of between 0.1-10 microCoulombs.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the removable circuit interrupt is a first removable circuit interrupt, and the predefined waveform is a first predefined waveform, the device further comprising:

a second removable circuit interrupt interposed between the battery and the control circuitry, wherein removal of the second removable circuit interrupt triggers delivery of a second predefined waveform between the first and second electrodes.

12. The device of claim 11 , wherein the second predefined waveform is different than the first predefined waveform.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein predefined waveform includes a pendulum waveform that oscillates around a center frequency, a center amplitude, or a center duty cycle.

14. A wearable neuromodulator patch device, the device comprising:

a flexible substrate;

a first electrode on the flexible substrate;

a second electrode on the flexible substrate concentric with the first electrode, wherein the first and second electrode each comprise an adhesive hydrogel on a first side of the substrate;

a battery;

a control circuitry coupled to the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the control circuitry is configured to detect an impedance between the first and second electrodes and to deliver a predefined waveform between the first and second electrodes when the battery is powering the control circuitry, the predefined waveform configured to provide constant current electrical pulses;

a pull tab interposed between the battery and the control circuitry and configured to be removed from the device to electrically engage the battery with the control circuitry,

wherein the control circuitry is configured to deliver the predefined waveform for 15 minutes or less when the battery is engaged with the control circuitry and when a detected impedance between the first and second electrode is within a range of values that indicate contact with skin; and
