Abstract

Some embodiments disclosed herein are directed to a pump assembly comprising a voice coil, a magnet and a diaphragm, wherein the voice coil is configured to move the diaphragm to pump a fluid through the pump assembly in response to a drive signal applied to the voice coil. Some embodiments disclosed herein are directed to an apparatus for applying negative pressure to a wound comprising a source of negative pressure configured to be coupled to a dressing, the source of negative comprising a voice coil actuator and a diaphragm, and a controller configured to produce a drive signal for the voice coil actuator.

Claims (25)

1. A system for use in negative pressure wound therapy, comprising:

a dressing configured to be placed over a wound; and

a pump assembly configured to be remote from the dressing, the pump assembly comprising:

a negative pressure source; and

a plurality of discrete indicator lights being located on an outside front surface of a pump assembly housing, the plurality of discrete indicator lights being located adjacent to each other along a width of the outside front surface of the pump assembly housing, the plurality of discrete indicator lights not being part of a graphical user interface, and the plurality of discrete indicator lights not being configured to receive user input,

wherein one discrete indicator light of the plurality of discrete indicator lights comprises a discrete saturation indicator light, the discrete saturation indicator light being configured to indicate a saturation level of the dressing, and the discrete saturation indicator light being associated with an image of the dressing.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein one or more discrete indicator lights of the plurality of discrete indicator lights are configured to alert a user to operating and/or failure conditions of the pump assembly.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein one or more discrete indicator lights of the plurality of discrete indicator lights are configured to alert a user to normal or proper operating conditions.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein one or more discrete indicator lights of the plurality of discrete indicator lights are configured to alert a user to one or more conditions of the pump assembly and dressing, wherein the one or more conditions comprise pump failure, power supplied to the pump assembly or power failure, a condition or voltage level of batteries, detection of a leak within the dressing or a flow pathway connecting the pump assembly to the dressing, or suction blockage.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the dressing comprises an absorbent layer, wherein the absorbent layer comprises superabsorbent material configured to form a reservoir of fluid removed from the wound.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one or more discrete indicator light of the plurality of discrete indicator lights comprises an image or text.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a flexible tubing fluidically connecting the pump assembly to the dressing.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the discrete saturation indicator light is configured to indicate when the dressing is full.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the discrete saturation indicator light is configured to indicate when the dressing requires changing.

10. The system of claim 1 , wherein one or more discrete indicator lights of the plurality of discrete indicator lights are configured to alert a user to a suction blockage condition of the pump assembly.

11. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a control button configured to control operation of the pump assembly.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control button is located on the outside front surface of the pump assembly housing.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of discrete indicator lights are located above the control button.

14. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of discrete indicator lights are located along a top edge of the outside front surface of the pump assembly housing.

15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of discrete indicator lights comprise at least three discrete indicator lights.

16. The system of claim 1 , further comprising a sole control button or switch positioned on an outside surface of the pump assembly housing and configured to activate and deactivate the negative pressure source.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the discrete saturation indicator light is configured to illuminate the image of the dressing.

18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the discrete saturation indicator light comprises the image of the dressing printed on the pump assembly housing.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the pump assembly does not include an electronic display.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of discrete indicator lights further comprise: a discrete indicator light configured to indicate normal operation, a discrete indicator light configured to indicate a leak in a fluid flow path connecting the negative pressure source to the dressing, and a discrete indictor light configured to indicate status of a power source.
