Claims (45)

1. A method of creating postage labels, the method being implemented by one or more processors executing computer program instructions that, when executed, cause the method to be performed, the method comprising:

receive, from a user device of a user, a user-provided image provided by the user;

cause presentation of (i) a user interface on the user device and (ii) the user-provided image in a region of the user interface, the user interface configured to enable the user to outline a non-templated shape customized for an object in the user-provided image;

receiving a request from the user device, the request comprising a purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels;

determining an indicia area size based on the non-templated shape;

printing, on a layer of a label stock, instances of the user-provided image, each of the instances of the user-provided image positioned on the layer of the label stock at a distance from an adjacent instance of the user-provided image; and

cutting, on the layer of the label stock, instances of a customized shape embodying the non-templated shape, each of the instances of the customized shape forming a respective border encompassing (i) a particular instance of the user-provided image and (ii) an associated indicia area in accordance with the indicia area size.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request from the user device of the user comprises (i) the purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels, (ii) the user-provided image, and (iii) the non-templated shape.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the request from the user device of the user comprises (i) the purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels and (ii) the non-templated shape.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user outlines the non-templated shape by moving an icon in the region of the user interface to draw the non-templated shape.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

reserving, on the layer of the label stock, for each of the instances of the user-provided image, a respective indicia area associated with the instance of the user-provided image, the respective indicia area comprising an area adapted for receiving print-rendering of computer-based postage indicia.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cutting comprises kiss-cutting each of the instances of the customized shape in the layer of the label stock.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the cutting comprises instructing a digital die-cutting device to kiss-cut each of the instances of the customized shape in the layer of the label stock.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the user device, an input comprising a positioning of the user-provided image; and

determining an indicia area position based on the positioning of the user-provided image,

wherein the cutting comprises cutting, on the layer of the label stock, instances of the customized shape such that each of the instances of the customized shape forming a respective border encompassing (i) a particular instance of the user-provided image and (ii) an associated indicia area in accordance with the indicia area size and the indicia area position.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the request from the user device of the user comprises (i) the purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels, (ii) the user-provided image, (iii) the non-templated shape, and (iv) the positioning of the user-provided image.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the non-templated shape is partially curvilinear.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the non-templated shape is partially polygonal.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the layer of the label stock is a top layer that comprises a top printable surface and a bottom surface comprising material, the label stock further comprising a bottom layer that adheres to the material, the top layer separable from the bottom layer.

13. A method of creating postage labels, the method being implemented by one or more processors executing computer program instructions that, when executed, cause the method to be performed, the method comprising:

receiving a request from a user device of a user, the request comprising a purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels;

receiving, from the user device, (i) a user-provided image provided by the user and (ii) an input comprising a non-templated shape customized for one or more objects in the user-provided image;

determining an indicia area size based on the non-templated shape;

printing, on a layer of a label stock, instances of the user-provided image, each of the instances of the user-provided image positioned on the layer of the label stock at a distance from an adjacent instance of the user-provided image; and

cutting, on the layer of the label stock, instances of a customized shape embodying the non-templated shape, each of the instances of the customized shape forming a respective border encompassing (i) a particular instance of the user-provided image and (ii) an associated indicia area in accordance with the indicia area size.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the non-templated shape is drawn by the user moving an icon within a region of a user interface, the region being configured to display the non-templated shape, the non-templated shape comprising one or more lines drawn in the region by the user moving the icon within the region.

15. The method of claim 13 , wherein the non-templated shape is drawn by the user dragging an icon within a region of a user interface, the region being configured to display the non-templated shape, the non-templated shape comprising one or more lines drawn in the region by the user dragging the icon within the region.

16. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

causing presentation of (i) a user interface on the user device and (ii) the user-provided image in a region of the user interface, the region configured to enable the user to outline the non-templated shape in the region of the user interface by dragging an icon in the region of the user interface to outline the non-templated shape.

17. The method of claim 13 , wherein the request from the user device of the user comprises (i) the purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels and (ii) the non-templated shape.

18. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

reserving, on the layer of the label stock, for each of the instances of the user-provided image, a respective indicia area associated with the instance of the user-provided image, the respective indicia area comprising an area adapted for receiving print-rendering of computer-based postage indicia.

19. The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

receiving, from the user device, an input comprising a positioning of the user-provided image; and

determining an indicia area position based on the positioning of the user-provided image,

wherein the cutting comprises cutting, on the layer of the label stock, instances of the customized shape such that each of the instances of the customized shape forming a respective border encompassing (i) a particular instance of the user-provided image and (ii) an associated indicia area in accordance with the indicia area size and the indicia area position.

20. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause operation comprising:

receiving a request from a user device of a user, the request comprising a purchase order by the user to purchase postage labels;

receiving, from the user device, (i) a user-provided image provided by the user and (ii) an input comprising a non-templated shape embodying an object in the user-provided image;

determining an indicia area size based on the non-templated shape;

printing, on a layer of a label stock, instances of the user-provided image, each of the instances of the user-provided image positioned on the layer of the label stock at a distance from an adjacent instance of the user-provided image; and

cutting, on the layer of the label stock, instances of a customized shape embodying the non-templated shape, each of the instances of the customized shape forming a respective border encompassing (i) a particular instance of the user-provided image and (ii) an associated indicia area in accordance with the indicia area size.
