Abstract

The present invention provides methods for performing an imaging method to detect a moiety associated with labeled hydroxymethylated bases in nucleic acid sequences, such as detecting a moiety associated with glucosylated 5-hydroxmethylated cytosines.

Claims (10)

1. A method comprising: performing an imaging method to detect a moiety associated with a glucosylated 5-hydroxymethylated cytosine in a nucleic acid that is from an extracellular fluid sample.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said moiety comprises a fluorophore.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said moiety comprises a biotinyl group.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said imaging method detects a presence of said glucosylated 5-hydroxymethylated cytosine in said nucleic acid.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising isolating said glucosylated 5-hydroxymethylated cytosine by affinity purification.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein said nucleic acid is from a subject having cancer or suspected of having cancer.

7. An imager comprising a nucleic acid or an amplicon thereof, wherein said nucleic acid or said amplicon thereof comprises a glucosylated 5-hydroxymethylated cytosine, and wherein the nucleic acid is from an extracellular fluid sample.

8. The imager of claim 7 , wherein said glucosylated 5-hydroxymethylated cytosine is associated with a moiety.

9. The imager of claim 8 , wherein said moiety comprises a fluorophore.

10. The imager of claim 8 , wherein said moiety comprises a biotinyl group.
